Hi,

I am due to have my baby in October, i am stuck on having him at Pembury hospital or Crowborough Birthing centre.
Obviously there is good and bad sides, i just keep thinking if i go to Crowborough what happens if they need to rush me to a hospital.
Any Advice

Hi there,

I had DS2 at CBC and started with DS1 there. Unfortunately, with DS1 I didn’t know I was in labour and turned up at 7cm dilated (apparently I have a high pain threshold, who knew, lol). When I found out I was actually in labour my body went into shock and, they think, sent a huge surge of adrenaline into DS1 making him dangerously tachycardic. The midwives were brilliant and immediately got us into an ambulance to Pembury where I was met at the doors of the hospital to be taken straight up for an EMCS. As it turned out the lack of suspension in the ambulance had got me to 10cm and he was born vaginally 20 minutes later as they agreed that was the quickest way to get him out. All good. DS2 was a lovely water birth, though with him I turned up at 8cm and they only just had time to fill the pool.

Anyway, from my experience I would say go with CBC because if, heaven forbid, anything did go wrong they would sort it out ASAP and if it didn’t it’s just such an amazing place to give birth. I transferred straight back there after DS1’s birth and had a wonderful time there as well so if you did get sent to Pembury you could always ask to return.

I’m due my 4th next week and wouldn’t hesitate to go back if it weren’t for the fact DD was only 21 minutes and an unplanned homebirth (whilst trying to get to CBC!) so this one is a planned homebirth.

HTH,
Catheric

I should also say that the next day my midwife (Daphne) came to see me and told me that DS had had the worst stats they’d ever seen of a baby who had survived so was a very real emergency. It was all handled brilliantly though. Hopefully that puts your mind to rest about how they respond to an emergency xx

Thank you so much.
Hope all goes with your 4th xx

Hi Lauren,
I was wondering whether you’d made any decision yet or if there was anything else I could help with?

I’m due tomorrow but no sign of any movement yet, boo

Hi Lauren,
Just resurrecting your thread to see how you’d got on? DD2 was born the day after my last message, on her due date, with Anita from the birthing centre in attendance.
I don’t know if you’re on the CBC Facebook page but they’ve just put up graphics of the September and October births they had, which are really interesting.
Catheric xx
