Waterbirth with bmi of 35+

I think I should come in at just under 35 but what’s the chances of getting a water birth if I don’t

I asked the consultant about this as my bmi is higher than 35 but water births is great for mums with SPD. She thought it was possible but as I'm going to the labour ward not the MLU it would be up to the staff there. I'll be ringing them to ask this week

Depends on your trusts policy and then the individual midwife attending your birth. The issue is that should something go wrong they need to be able to pull you out the pool.

I was told by my consultant that the hospital operated an upper weight limit on the pool and that it was an outright no (I was 4kg over the max, despite actually losing weight since being pregnant.)

I have had a completely healthy pregnancy, have tested negative for GD and all the other stuff they try and scare you with, and am perfectly mobile so found this really unfair. I called and spoke to the labour ward manager and have been in today to see her. She’s done a risk assessment and shown me around the pool room etc, and is updating my notes to say that this has all been prior arranged.

Hospital policies vary so it is worth asking what the situation is at your own hospital, but even if it doesn’t look good if you’re an otherwise perfect candidate I would definitely recommend taking it further x
