Is this baby blues?

Hi everyone

I gave birth five days ago and woke up today with the worst headache of my life. My milk has just come in and I feel terrible. Since this morning I’ve had two sessions of inconsolable crying. The headache pain won’t shift even though I’ve taken max dose of paracetamol and ibuprofen. I was fine yesterday but today I feel hopeless.

Midwife visited this morning and blood pressure etcis fine. So not likely any serious cause for headache.

Yep sounds a lot like it! Day 5 I cried nearly all day. I cried at songs in the radio, tv adverts, just the presence of my husband made me cry. I cried because I was tired. I cried because I loved my baby too much. I cried because I didn't love her enough. It was very strange but went away in a day or so!

Did you have an epidural or spinal? It's possible the headache is a complication from that, although 5 days is on the later side for it to start. It could just be from the normal extreme tiredness of the first days with a newborn. Crying for no obvious reason is very, very common though.

No section or spinal. I just can’t beleive how down I feel. So intense. Out of nowhere. I felt down this morning and it went away. Now been in tears for two hours.

Beware day 5! I remember just walking round the house crying inconsolably, give it a couple of days and it might/probably will pass but if not be sure to ask for help Thanks

Ooh yes! Awful isn't it. It'll only last a few days like this (post natal depression is a different experience).

Five days after my son was born I started to cry at a cat food advert. Didn't stop for about 3 days. I was fine after that but it was truly awful.

Rhodes2015again · 24/07/2018 18:56

I felt the exact same, mine hit on day 4 and was when my milk came in. Literally woke up feeling completely different to the day before, really really low.
For me it was really intense for just over a week. I really hope it passes quickly for you Flowers

elmo1980 · 24/07/2018 19:00

I only had this first time around thank goodness it's awful.

I felt very aware of my own mortality and watching an advert of someone painting their hallway and me thinking "what's the point in doing that they're only going to die one day".

Hang in there op it will go.

laurG · 24/07/2018 19:36

Thanks all. It seems to have passed into being mildly emotional/ teary on a bad pmt level. It was intense though for a few days. Didn’t help having visitors who wouldn’t take no for an answer.

@laurG glad to hear you're feeling a little bit better! Sorry about your nightmare guests.

I don't have children but I am always amazed by people who seem to forget new families need their own space xx
