Hi,

I'm due this week and just wondering if there's any way to help bring on labour that actually works?

Apparently reflexology works. May be worth a try?

specialsubject · 02/07/2018 19:31

no it doesnt. ask for evidence.

induction works. hope tenant eviction is soon and goes very well.

Nipple stimulation

Imchlibob · 02/07/2018 19:35

I heard that eating fresh pineapple (not tinned) can help so when I was 5 days overdue I bought a pineapple. We ate it 5 days later when I got home from hospital as I went into labour about 3 hours after buying the ruddy thing and wasn't at home for a while.

Raspberry leaf tea is also said to help (to the point that women 0-7 months pregnant really mustn't drink it) but it is absolutely vile. Health food shops sometimes sell essence of raspberry leaf pills.

Sex and a lot of walking around

AmazingGrace16 · 02/07/2018 19:49

Eat dates...about 6 a day

Pebblespony · 02/07/2018 19:54

No. The only thing thay will do it is time. No evidence to support anything else working. If they did, health services would just tell you to take them and save themselves the cost of an induction.

'i heard' 'it is said' ....always the prefaces to nonsense.

Bluebirdsky · 02/07/2018 21:26

I have got an appointment at my local hospital on Friday for aromatherapy and reflexology to try and help labour start, assuming that they think there must be something in it or they wouldn't offer it. Might be worth contacting your hospital to see if they offer anything.

specialsubject · 02/07/2018 22:04

massage and nice smells are good. Ask for evidence that they start labour...

the nhs have only just stopped homeopathy which is shocking.

Bluebirdsky · 02/07/2018 22:37

The way I see it is if it doesn't do any harm and maybe relaxing and pleasant to have done then why not! I am under no false allusion to the fact that baby will only come when ready (or forced out) anyway.

almostmumtotwo · 03/07/2018 07:12

I'll give a few things a go. I know nothing is guaranteed to work, I just want her to be here now, really don't want to go overdue but it looks like she's pretty comfortable in there and doesn't want to budge yet. 😬

My little boy was born 7 hours after sex with dp, tmi but..! Also, I did go for an hour long walk earlier in the evening. Both worth a try if you feel up to it.

fourmileswide · 03/07/2018 23:57

My SIL said that a strong curry followed by taking the dogs for a long walk worked for her.

WhirlingTurkey · 04/07/2018 19:57

Dates (but you need to start a few weeks in advance, won't help you now), bouncing on birthing ball, sex, walking... I used these to such great success that I was a week early. Obviously could be total confidence but shall be employing the same tactic next time.

almostmumtotwo · 04/07/2018 20:29

I've attempted the walking and other things but still nothing... same happened last pregnancy I guess the babies just don't want to budge haha 😆

I tried absolutely everything including 3 sweeps and nothing. My waters went the night before her due date and she came on her due date by an hour. Just be patient and they will come when they are ready (easier said than done at this stage I know) but just relax

BlueMoon33 · 06/07/2018 18:45

I was due to be induced, the night before had sex and a glass of wine, woke up the next morning in labour...

almostmumtotwo · 06/07/2018 19:21

I couldn't even have the stretch and sweep as my cervix is behind baby's head and midwife couldn't reach it yesterday! So even that's a no for now. Got another appointment next week for if baby doesn't arrive by then and then induction booked just incase I go fully over. Tried walking, sex, pineapple etc but nothing yet.
