Sex after episiotomy

Hey,

Just wondering on personal experience how long after episiotomy you were able to have sex. I had a second degree episiotomy and stitches have opened inside -not outside and not infected. As they are not restitching inside I'm just taking antibiotics, the midwives have said it will take a "while" to heal.

I'm just wonder if this "while" is more like 4 weeks or 20?

Any experience appreciated!

Hello, I had an episiotomy on my DC1 and i didn't attempt sex until 7 weeks later. It was quite sore and we had to take things sow for a couple of weeks but got easier quickly.

With DC2 I had a tear and took about 8/9 weeks before I felt ready.

Six weeks, or a little less.

I first had sex about 10 weeks but it took months for sex to not be excruciatingly painful. Retrospectively I wonder whether I was stitched too tightly as it only really felt better after dc2.

I couldn't have sex for over a year after giving birth. We tried a few times but it was just awful. Eventually after a good year I was referred to a gynae by my GP. Eventually it improved and now 4 years later it doesn't hurt anymore at all. Still have scarring tissue though.

I had an episiotomy and I think it was about 5 weeks before we attempted it. I won't lie it was a bit sore at first but now it doesn't hurt at all.

Around 6 weeks.

DramaAlpaca · 28/06/2018 21:03

Just before six weeks after episiotomy with DC1 so I'd be able to report any issues at the six week check.

I tore with DC2 and that took much longer to heal.

Ten weeks. The tissue was healed by then but my bones were still bruised so it was still painful. I did have a particularly nasty birth though.

Probably took a good 4-5 months for it to not be sore anymore.

I think they usually advise to wait at least 6 weeks, and if you feel ready then go for it. It took me months to feel ok down there again even though my switches healed quickly. In terms of how long it would take to heal would be difficult to say since each one is different.

About 7 months. I was still getting twinges of pain before then, so no way would I have tried it.
I think DH was pleasantly surprised when I was good to go after 4 weeks with our second!

FartnissEverbeans · 28/06/2018 21:47

It took me ten months before I could have sex without significant pain.

We tried at 9 weeks and it was agony. Eventually saw a wonderful physio who fixed things. 2 years on and whilst it's not the same it's much much better.
