Oh, and you may want to shave (or rather get somebody to help you shave) the top bit of your pubic hair in case of a CS. "Better do it yourself beforehand than a nervous midwifery student do it with a dry bic in between godawful contractions" as another mumsnetter so helpfully described it 9 years ago or so.
I did, and I was glad for it ...

Ah, Lucozade. Bastard DH got himself some from the machine and didn't offer me any. (At that stage I was to focused to ask myself, yup it gets intense.) Still bitter about that. Grin

I am gearing up to pack my hospital bag(s) and in the hope of reviving this threadwanted to add a tip i found in a midwives book: if the hospital rooms are tiny, pack two bags : the first for the birth, with eg boob tube, lavender water spray, snacks; and the second for the ward stay, including a long phone charger, aldi crocs to later dispose of, and a dressing gown.
Anyone else have any fresh tips for a hot august birth?

Loads of great lists on here, my favourite things I took are:
Eye mask for sleeping (lights are dimmed but never out)

Sports top bottle for pouring water over as you pee! Also those moist toilet wipes will come in very handy during the early weeks.

Arnica tablets - they are herbal so hospital won't provide them, but they can help ease bruising. I swear I healed much quicker than I expected after my episiotomy.

Nice toiletries - it might seem silly but after giving birth when you're living in hospital you feel a bit gross at a time when you deserve to feel special! I took some Sanctuary Spa minutures and now whenever I smell them it takes me back to watching my tiny new LO sleep in her plastic crib.

Similarly I got a set of matching nightie and robe plus new towels - all black (stains!) and all cheap Primarni but it just helped me feel nicer, especially when visitors showed up.

I also packed a bag of snacks and bits for my OH - it can be a long haul for them and you need them to be able to support you!
Energy drinks, cereal bars and also food they can make with just hot water like pot noodles or those porridge pots you can get (don't forget a spoon!)
Plus a toothbrush, fresh tshirt and comfy bottoms.
Book and a phone charger.

(Of course my OH forgot the bag and was starving 🙈)

Paracetamol, fleecy socks, at least double the number of maternity pads and big knickers that you think you'll need.

A hat for the baby, the hospital ones aren't very nice and end up covered in birth gunk.

Cash for taxis, payphones in case of no signal, vending machines, parking etc.

Does anyone have any special packing tips for heatwave packing? I would think water spray maybe with lavender or neroli, ice cube bags( the hospital said they have a freezer for patients’ use) flip flops, boob tube, thin dressing gown, handheld fan.
