Birth weights

Hello, I hope I'm posting in the right place...
I have a dd who is nearly 3. Her birth weight was 5lb3oz. Unexplained low birth weight, but otherwise a healthy baby. I had a few growth scans because my amniotic fluid levels were all over the place and she was estimated to be 7.5-8lbs. I know to take this with a pinch of salt as they're never usually accurate.
I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant and having growth scans just because dd was that bit smaller. My question is if you've had a baby with a lower birth weight, or even a bigger baby, was your 2nd , 3rd similar?? Or did they vary?
Just so I have an idea of what to expect!

DS was 4lb10, 5th centile when he was born I think. It was unexplained at the time but likely to relate to low PAPP-A levels, which I have also with this pregnancy (they didn’t know the association then). He was also fine, no SCBU or anything.

I’m 34 weeks now and having scans roughly every 3 weeks. Taking baby aspirin. At my last scan the baby was estimted to be 75th centile! Another scan next week, but even if his weight tails off, he should be good. I’m hoping for a really chunky baby this time Smile

My first dd was 6lb at full term. My second was 8lb.
I did have hyperemesis in both pregnancies but I was prescribed medication the second time round which helped a lot. Not sure if my horrendous sickness for most of the pregnancy led to dd1 being so much smaller.

I haven't had a super small baby like you but all 4 of my children have been varying degrees of "overdue" and the difference from smallest to biggest was 2lbs.

MagicFajita · 20/06/2018 09:05

My three were each overdue (2 weeks or thereabouts) and each weighed in at just under 7lb. I'm guessing they would've been 'small' had they been born at 40 weeks.

I'm small though , short body etc and each of them gained weight well and easily and were healthy. I feel like my body just has a 7lb limit when carrying a baby.

DS1 6lb 1oz - 12 days early

DD 6lb 15.5 oz - 3 days late

DS2 6lb 9oz - 12 days early.

moofolk · 20/06/2018 09:15

My first was 10lb, and my twins were 7lb & 7lb2oz at 38 weeks so yes the pattern for bigger babies stayed with me.

I'm not large btw. I was a size 8 before pregnancy number one (fit and healthy, aged 28) and a solid size 12 8 years after pregnancy 2 (but now almost 40 so can't just blame the kids!)

moofolk · 20/06/2018 09:15

They're all small to average for their age now.

Takfujuimoto · 20/06/2018 09:23

DC1- 7lbs9oz @ 39 weeks
DC2- 8lbs3oz @ 39 weeks
DC3- 8lbs6oz @ 36 weeks

Most people I know with multiple children even if their first baby was a lower weight had heavier subsequent babies (born at term).

bananapjs · 20/06/2018 11:23

Thanks for all the replies, it's interesting that there are some patterns but not always.
Levithecat I read up on papp-a levels after we had dd. It's never been mentioned this pregnancy, is it something I would ask or they would flag up if they could see mine were low this time?
moofolk thats a fantastic healthy weight for your twins, must have felt exhausted carrying on your small frame!

They include it in your 12w blood screening now, banana, so would definitely have flagged it with you. It may be on your screening results letter? Best of luck for a chub this time round

Bigpizzalover · 20/06/2018 16:26

Thanks levithecat

Wow bigpizzalover what a difference!

Really hoping the next one is a bit of a chub, when dd was born the midwives told us to wake her every hour and a half to feed her.

Mine were pretty much the same

MrsPnut · 20/06/2018 22:34

DD1 was 4lb 7oz at almost 36 weeks.
DD2 was 10lb 1oz at almost 42 weeks.

SnuffleBadger · 20/06/2018 22:35

DS 5lb 12.5oz. I was induced at 35+6 as he was growth restricted, issues with blood flow between placenta and DS.

DD 8lb 12ozs at 40+2

SluttyButty · 20/06/2018 22:44

Ds1 7lb 9 at 36+3 weeks
Ds2 6lb15 at 38 weeks
Dd 8lb 7 at 41+3 weeks
Ds3 7lb11 at 41.2 weeks

No rhyme or reason to any of mine at all.

Jestem · 21/06/2018 01:22
  1. 6lb 4oz at 41+1
  2. 9lb 6oz at 41+4
elliejjtiny · 21/06/2018 01:29

My eldest 3 were born at term and all weighed around the same (8lb 13, 8lb 10 and 8lb 12). Younger 2 were prem and a bit lighter but both born on the same centile as the others. Very similar lengths as well.

EveMoneypenny · 21/06/2018 14:17

One of mine was 3 lbs heavier than the other. Both boys, both healthy and full term, heavier one born at 42 weeks though (he was my first).

FinallyARainbow · 21/06/2018 14:20

DS1 - 3lb 14oz at 35 weeks
DS2 - 6lb 3oz at 36+6

grace7 · 06/07/2018 15:42

I had to go for two growth scans, had a v small bump, was constantly being told how tiny my baby would be. Ds was actually born weighing 7lbs14!

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 06/07/2018 23:01

Ds: 6Ib 9oz at 39+1
Dd: 7Ib 15oz at 39+1

My weight gain and diet was virtually identical across both pregnancies.
