Has anyone tried hypnobirthing? Did it help? Did you do a course or just podcasts?

33 weeks and starting to think about how this baby is going to appear in the world!!!

Sorry if this has been asked loads before :-)

I did a course with Sophie Fletcher called “mindful mama”.

I had a home birth so relaxation and distraction techniques were very important due to limited pain relief options.

I found the best thing to do was to practise the breathing techniques matched with your own music preferences to make a very personal hypnosis tool box.

I managed 26 hours with my hypnobirthing and the pool, really recommend it and I was very dubious!

SO good! I did some podcasts with DD1 and ended up having an EMCS with my first, which was fine, but wanted a VBAC with my second and was very nervous, so DH and i did a weekend away as a babymoon. Doing it in person and as a couple made it far more helpful.

It made a big difference, I am very petite and had a large baby with minimal issue and without drugs, and in hindsight would have been good for the section as well, as being in that calm state of mind is also helpful when you know you're about to have your stomach muscle cut open!
Do choose carefully, many are great but some have a definite bias towards a certain type of birth, which is fine if that's also your plan but isn't for everyone. Start asap also as you need to practise for it to work on the day.

Useless for me! I ended up with all sorts of interventions - all necessary and produced healthy dc.
I wouldn’t give it too much weight

It don't think it did much for me in actual labour but I found myself using the relaxation techniques afterwards to help cope with my emotions etc in the weeks afterwards. The birth itself was fast and pretty straightforward and I didn't find it bad so, who knows, maybe it helped. I'd definitely use it again. It didn't make things worse anyway.

We just finished the digital pack form the positive birth company. I'm due any day now so I annoy comment on how useful it is throughout labour and delivery, however myself AND my partner feel a lot better prepared and more confident about talking to professionals and just generally the whole situation. Just for this alone I would totally recommend.
