How long from this to labour?

Last night intense period pains for a few hours but then all stopped. A few hours later discharge with light blood... how likely is it that labour will happen today?

LadyPug by discharge with light blood do you mean your plug has passed?

Early labour (the latent phase) can take days, even weeks, for some people. This is the stage that women often experience:

Persistent lower back pain or abdominal pain, with a pre-menstrual feeling and cramps. Painful contractions or tightenings that may be irregular in strength and frequency, and may stop and start

It is the stage that gets you to 3cm dilated and then into active labour.

Unfortunately no one knows how long this stage will take and it can start and stop for women.

DrWhy · 22/05/2018 15:38

For me about 3 hours from then to calling husband home from work and 13 hours to baby. However, I was 4cm the day before at my sweep so obviously completely missed the early bit.

DrWhy haha you lucky thing! I was in that first stage for a few days. Hoping my 2nd birth will be like yours

TeddyIsaHe · 22/05/2018 15:41

From period pains and losing my plug it took me 24 hours to get into established labour. Bloody horrible!

TheyCanGoInTheBucket · 22/05/2018 16:21

I've been stuck in this phase for 4 days 😔

DramaAlpaca · 22/05/2018 16:24

Everyone's different & you really can't tell how long it'll take. I remember a thread about this a while back and there was so much variation, from a few hours to a few days.

For me, DS1 was born 12 hours after I lost my plug. I'd already been having occasional contractions for a few hours before that.

Rogue1234 · 22/05/2018 16:25

I'm sorry to say for me it was 2 weeks of period pains and Braxton Hicks after I lost my plug before I was in established labour.

The day I lost my plug I was 1cm dialated, and I slooowly dialated to 2cm over the 2 weeks until my waters broke and DS was born 8 hours later.

MWs always say they'd be rich if they could predict when people would be in labour.

I hope you are okay OP FX you are having a lovely swift labour already

LadyPug · 22/05/2018 16:57

I just wondered as it didn’t happen for me last time so I’m clueless on this front. I have to be in labour in less than two weeks otherwise it goes to section so I’m hoping this means things are progressing. It’s just discharge with the odd bit of red in it and the odd tummy/back cramp so this thread shows that it doesn’t necessarily mean anything and not to get hopes up

LadyPug baby movements still all okay yeah?

LadyPug · 22/05/2018 18:44

Less movement today compared to last night, last night lots of movement but I’m guessing not much room in their now

Any change from your normal pattern of movements needs to be checked out. The amount of space baby has doesn't make a difference, that's an old myth. Ring your unit tonight.

LadyPug · 22/05/2018 19:01

I was checked today at appointment and everything is fine, thank you though

Glad to hear all was fine when you got checked out. Surprising isn't it how different each pregnancy and labour can be. Good luck Flowers

RockinRobinTweets · 22/05/2018 19:11

I’m with you op. Lots of period type pains, Braxton Hicks and upset stomach. Just waiting for something real like contractions that get closer and more painful or my waters.

I was in limbo for 10 days last time and had a couple of weeks of niggles so far but just what to expect at 8.5 months pregnant I suppose.
