Hi all,

Just been to see my midwife, they suspect I may have pre eclampsia and I've got to go back. What does that mean in terms of my labour? Would I be refused a water birth?

Midwife barely said a word to me.

I’m so sorry to hear this. How far along are you? What made them suspect it and when are you going back?

Duprasi · 16/05/2018 17:06

I wasn't allowed a waterbirth with what i was told was mild pre eclampsia but different districts have different rules

Protein in my urine. I'm going back in 3 weeks for it to be tested, she didn't seem concerned but then she hardly spoke to me at all.

I'm 25+2 today.

How far along are you? I had it on both of my dc but it was much worse first time around and I had a section at 35 weeks because of it so I have no advice on the water birth. Have they given you meds to control your blood pressure or are you having extra monitoring? I was admitted to hospital for monitoring several times during my pregnancy. I felt absolutely fine so it was a complete shock to me. It kicked off for me around week 29. Big hugs OP.

@SparkyBlue no meds yet, back in 3 weeks for testing. I have swelling in hands and feet but blood pressure is low. Just hoping I don't have protein in wee next time I go.

It really depends how severe it becomes and how quickly. I was diagnosed and had emergency section within a few days at 35 weeks. I know others who have been induced early or even allowed to go to due date. Keep an eye on your symptoms and if you have headaches, visual disturbances, or severe swelling get checked out ASAP.

Good luck

I doubt you would be allowed a waterbirth. When I was in labour with DD all was fine and they even had the bath running. Midwife took my blood pressure right before they were planning to get me in. It has shot up. I was almost 10cm and they made me switch rooms Shock

There's loads of reasons why you could have protein in your . If you have a lot of discharge that can contaminate your sample and show protein.

TammySwansonTwo · 16/05/2018 17:59

3 weeks? I would check if that’s normal. I started getting high levels of protein in my urine and they came round to check my urine and BP every 3 days until the end of my pregnancy but I was having twins so more risk of pre-eclampsia.

@whatamigoingtodo87 how are you doing now?
