Home birth after PPH?

I had to have my first in the labour ward due to a very low lying placenta. I hated it - so medical and bright and busy. My contractions stopped as soon as I got there and I ended up on an induction drip. Due to position of baby I also had to lie on my side rather than move around. It was agony so I had an epidural and DD was a ventouse delivery. I lost 1 litre of blood.

I’m pregnant again and I really, really don’t want to have my second child in that labour ward. The midwife led unit at the hospital isn’t great.

Anyone had a similar first birth and gone on to have a Home birth?

At my booking in appointment midwife thought if I likely due to the pph.

I had PPH due to retained placenta and am hoping for birth centre for second delivery. It will probably depend on a few things - how far you are from hospital, the reason for the PPH being two of them. It should be a discussion you can have with your midwife without it feeling like it’s been blanket ruled-out. If your current midwife won’t engage on it then maybe request to speak to someone else: I would imagine you’ll be referred to consultant midwives for a discussion nearer your due date.

Thanks. I’m having a debrief with the hospital soon about DDs birth so I’ll ask them about the bleed then and if they know what caused it. But I guess they don’t fully know what they cause was...

I hope you get the birth centre. That’s a sensible option potentially for me....but like I say my nearest one is not so nice. Might have to consider switching care to a further away hospital. Lots to think about!

Like @moreismore I had retained placenta and PPH. With No2 I was allowed on to the birth centre but I wanted a Home birth.

In the end I was induced with a pessary & Baby was born on L&D. Great birth and nothing like my first which was 37h long & needed the drip.
