Sex and Stitches?!

Hi all!
It's been 3 weeks since giving birth, it was quite long and traumatic and I ended up having an epidural in the end. I was left with a 2nd degree tear and stitches.
I was so sore for the first week, but in the 2nd week I had sex with my partner.
I feel like we went a little crazy as I had had a drink so I didn't really feel the pain so much, however since then, I've been unable to have sex. It just feels like it's pinching when we try and I end up tapping out before it's even started.
Can you guys just tell me if you had stitches and if so, when were you able to have sex without pain again?
Much appreciated, thanks!!

Ooh ouch!!!! Definitely need to give it more time. Sorry to be the harbourger of doom but I was 6 months before it felt anything like normal. But then I had an episiotomy and a shed load of stiches.

ILoveMyMonkey · 27/04/2018 19:02

Jesus you were brave. Stitches following an epidural, first had sex 6 months later and that was painful so didn't bother again until 9 months which was uncomfortable but not painful and finally felt normal after a year.

ILoveMyMonkey · 27/04/2018 19:03

*episiotomy not epidural Confused

PleaseAndThanks · 27/04/2018 19:03

I was fine to DTD after 6 weeks (episiotomy), I assume you’re not bleeding or anything? Just wondering if your stitches are ok!

kgreen1999 · 27/04/2018 19:06

I know, I think it must of been the alcohol that got me through! I'm absolutely gutted because I know my partner wants us to have sex (as do I) but I just feel unable to, I feel like he thinks I'm just saying it because I don't want to but it's not the case at all, I'm starting to feel like it's making him distant and drift away.

The stitches are fine, last time I saw the midwife she said they were all healed! I just still feel sore but I'm unsure if that's because of the sex or not. I'm still bleeding a tiny bit but once again, unsure if it's the sex that's caused it!! @PleaseAndThanks

Jeez I don't think your partner is being very sympathetic. Surely he witnessed the birth and the damage it caused??

shartsi · 27/04/2018 19:12

You can do other stuff without penetration if you both want to.

SharkSave · 27/04/2018 20:27

Fucking hell you're 3 weeks post birth which included stitches and he's drifting away and being distant?! Wtf!
I had a lot of stitches and a bad tear, we waited 8 weeks and it was ok. I think you may have just overdone it by going a bit soon but if you're unsure please see your dr

Fuzzyduck21 · 02/05/2018 23:44

Wow I'm 5 wks post birth and had no stitches and he's still not going near me for a good while longer lol. With my first I had no stitches either (must have a bucket fanny?) And it was a good 10-12 weeks before we dtd. Sorry it's not a helpful reply but just wanted to say wow go you! X

Redrunbluerun · 02/05/2018 23:47

Are you still bleeding? I was told I wasn’t meant to have sex until I had my 6 week check and bleeding had stopped. I believe there’s a risk of infection.
I’ve never known anyone have sex 3 weeks post labour!

LadyB49 · 02/05/2018 23:51

I'm wincing at the thought of only 3 weeks...ouch. I was at least 7 weeks.

kaylag19 · 03/05/2018 15:48

@Fuzzyduck21 Honestly don't know how I managed to do it!! Still going now haha! Maybe I have a bucket fanny too and that's why I'm able to do it 😂 thank you!! X

kaylag19 · 03/05/2018 15:51

@Redrunbluerun I'm barely bleeding anymore, I tend to bleed a tiny bit after sex but other than that, there's barely any bleeding at all. And they do advise to wait but it's just a guideline really. Whenever you feel ready, you feel ready I guess :)

kaylag19 · 03/05/2018 15:53

@LadyB49 I know, I didn't think I'd be able to do it but I'm now 4 weeks postpartum and I'm able to have sex without too much pain. Just some positions can be uncomfortable. Not a clue why I'm able to have sex! But I'm not going to complain hahah!

LynseyLou1982 · 03/05/2018 17:16

I had an episiotomy too and I was 6 weeks pp before we DTD

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 03/05/2018 17:18

I feel like he thinks I'm just saying it because I don't want to but it's not the case at all, I'm starting to feel like it's making him distant and drift away.

Jesus. What does he think you’ve just done, sneezed out a pea?! Tell him to have some bloody empathy.

April229 · 10/05/2018 21:46

Two weeks! Holy shit - it was months before we even tried!

Spudlet · 10/05/2018 21:52

Two weeks? TWO WEEKS?! Holy shit woman, you have got to be kidding!

It was probably more like twelve weeks before I was even confident enough to consider it (also before we had the energy thanks to the incredible non-sleeping constantly feeding infant that we spawned) and even then we had to go crazy with the lube and watch the angles. You have a birth injury that needs to heal. In the meantime, your partner has a hand, does he not? It's hardly as though PiV sex is the only way for either party to have fun. Assuming you have the energy, that is.

Sadsnake · 10/05/2018 21:53

I think you should let yr dr have a look, you could of pulled yr stitches .really you are supposed to wait till you have had your six week check..your dh is not being considerate..I know you said you've done it a few times now,but it wouldn't hurt to let dr take a look and also sort out contraception x

Marmite27 · 10/05/2018 21:57

I think it was about 7 months with the 1st.

DH is booked in for the snip, so may not be all from my side this time!

Just before they left the hospital the lady in the next bed and her partner had the fertility talk from the midwife and they nipped down to the pharmacy and came back with too giant boxes of condoms. Me DH and the lady in the opposite bed were Shock

Jeepers. 3 weeks. No. Just no.

Sorry but my physical and psychological recovery was more important .
