How did you feel before you went into labour?

I'm currently 38+3 and wondering what you felt like before labour started?

Upset!

We went to a shopping mall and I ended up exhausted from walking all day. Then we went home and I tried to sort through all the baby clothes and put hen into some sort of order, but ended up crying because there were too many varieties of vests to categorise!

I just get really crummy and uncomfortable all day. Next morning, pop, my waters broke three weeks early and labour began.

HopeAndJoy16 · 12/04/2018 12:29

I felt completely normal, had zero inkling. Woke up in the morning with cramps which quickly escalated into irregular contractions. Had baby at 8pm that evening!

Squaffle · 13/04/2018 14:55

Ditto above! Felt completely normal, no inkling whatsoever, waters broke whilst eating pasta and DD born 5 hours later. Good luck to you, such an exciting time!

BergamotMouse · 13/04/2018 15:05

Completely normal. Was at a party that evening. Treated myself to 1/4 glass of bubbly. Went to bed, jumped up at 11pm wondering what the shocking pain was in my bladder area. Took me a while to realise they were strong contractions as in a completely different place to where I expected. Fully dilated within 3 hours.

SoyDora · 13/04/2018 15:06

Fed up and pissed off Grin.
Otherwise completely normal.

M0reGinPlease · 13/04/2018 16:32

I knew I was about to go into labour. Can't describe how exactly, it was just a feeling. I also had dull, period like cramps for around 12 hours before.

Rikalaily · 14/04/2018 09:18

I usually get very emotional around 12 hours before it starts, literally sobbing about something really stupid or over totally irrational feelings, physically I usually feel a bit better and usually sleep pretty well the night before too.

Mrsx79 · 14/04/2018 09:24

Nothing. Had a great nights sleep. Woke at 7... stayed to get some twinges in my back but nothing regular. By 8am it felt stronger and the midwife recommended me coming in as we are an hour away. headed in... By the time I was seem at triage I was 6/7cm but I wouldn't have said it felt like active labour. walked down to the labour suite and then thing ramped up. Baby was back to back. Waters went and he was out in 2 pushes. Whole labour was less than 4 hours.

Fitzsimmons · 14/04/2018 09:25

I was weirdly very calm and I am not a calm person.

ificouldwritealettertome · 14/04/2018 09:28

Enormous, tired, miserable, irritable and furious. At everything. I fell over during contractions because I was so huge and DH laughed, then for about an hour or so I think he genuinely feared for his life.

GirlGang89 · 15/04/2018 20:53

I was doing my weekly shop in Sainsbury’s when my contractions started at 40 + 4. I just felt really calm like other people said, I didn’t feel fed up or anything like others said, I felt a bit different. I had been having braxton hicks for weeks but when I started getting twinges I just knew it was the real deal 😂 I continued my shop, drove home, put the shopping away, hung the washing up, rung my husband and said ‘you better leave work, I’m just getting in the bath’. An hour later he was home and we got to the hospital at 8pm and had my DD2 by 10:52! (My DD1 was induced so had no signs!)

Good luck! X

MillieMoon94 · 15/04/2018 20:59

I felt completely normal both times. First labour started with a show when I got up in the morning and contractions didn’t start for a while. Second labour started with mild contractions that came out of nowhere when I was walking home from taking DS to nursery. They stayed fairly mild for most of the day, to the point where I was starting to think they were just Braxton Hicks (I was 12 days early) when suddenly I just needed to push and DD was out about 45 minutes later.

ised · 15/04/2018 21:01

Apparently I'm angry and snappy according to my best friend who had been with me the day before I went into labour in three pregnancies, after the first time the following times as I left she said "I will keep my phone on tonight as your having that baby" and she was right

Muse84 · 15/04/2018 21:46

Tired, headachey. I went to cinema (first and last time on my own!) during the day and couldnt follow film. Went to bed early feeling crappy, first contraction woke me at 11pm. Good luck!

sundayblanket · 17/04/2018 10:08

@sparklingfairy1234 I'm glad to see your post as I was about to ask the same question!

I'm 39 weeks and over the past week have been experiencing cramps, twinges, upset stomach, lethargy, and headaches. And today, nausea. I can't take this much longer! Every night I go to bed thinking this is it, tonight is the night, but in the morning no baby Sad

How are you getting on?

sirlee66 · 17/04/2018 10:44

Due date is today! Absolutely no signs. He's very happy in there. Although have a streach and sweep today to fingers crossed!!

Apricots17 · 17/04/2018 23:02

I went 8 days over and felt just uncomfortable and started getting very light regular period type pains on and off for a couple of hours and then suddenly the nice little bearable pains got a LOT stronger! No show or anything though until I was 5cm dilated! It's a totally unpredictable experience. Good luck!

laelti · 17/04/2018 23:03

Pretty normal - or as normal as you can feel at 9 months pregnant at least.
Woke up 40+4 with contractions and that was that. Went to hospital at 11am and he was born 4.16pm.
Not even a show/plug/waters until after I'd gone into hospital, and I never had any braxton hicks!

sparklingfairy1234 · 18/04/2018 16:27

@sundayblanket still here! I'm due on Friday and not a twinge Hmm

OP posts:
sundayblanket · 18/04/2018 16:32

@sparklingfairy1234 I'm also still here. I keep going to bed thinking this is it, only to wake up not contracting. All the friends, family and colleagues messaging to ask if the baby has arrived yet isn't helping. I actually woke up and had a little cry this morning! (Hormonal...)

@sirlee66 how did the sweep go?

sirlee66 · 18/04/2018 16:58

@sundayblanket sweep was fine cervix was favourable and am 1cm dialated so good signs! I woke up this morning with waters broken (double took incase I'd wet myself! Ha!)! They have been gushing out all day! No contractions or anything though so hoping for natural labour to start soon as I really don't want to be induced!

Fieau · 18/04/2018 17:05

@sparklingfairy1234 I'm due on Saturday. No sign of labour beginning yet. Got a midwife appointment in the morning so hoping she'll give me a sweep.

sundayblanket · 18/04/2018 17:08

@sirlee66 all very good signs! Was the sweep uncomfortable? Hopefully a little baby v v soon :)

TSSDNCOP · 18/04/2018 17:11

Truthfully? Fucking irked. Consultant sent me to hospital to be induced. The baby was a whopper, he said. On arrival his registrar disagreed and said the baby would turn out to be 6.5 lb and go home. So frustrating.

Then luckily before I left consultant rang and said was i there? At which point registrar relented.

DS therefore born on due dat at 10lb 5. Registrar asked for a re-weigh Grin
