Think my stitches have come apart.. What do I do

So earlier thought I'd have a look down there to see how it's all healing etc.
And the perennial tear looks a tiny bit open and slight blood. The gap is only a few mm. I can see part of a stitch both sides but not as one.. Like it's split.
I wasn't in any discomfort or anything.. In fact I looked because I felt quite healed..
. But now my mind is playing tricks thinking it's sore.
I'm. Discharged from Midwife.
My gp is male and its hard to see the female one.. So not sure whether to contact anyone or wait and see if heals.

What would cause them to tear if that is the case.? Is it because I've been over doing g things. Ie carrying lots of heavy shopping etc

How many days post birth are you? If you are within 4 weeks then the maternity day unit at your hospital should still see you if you need to go. Make sure you are seen if it is painful/red/smelly/oozing pus. It's unlikely to be because you've been carrying things. Hope it heals.

Just over two weeks pp..
I'll ring them tomorrow.
No smell or anything. Wasn't sure if puss or cm on tissue earlier. It was clear / tinge of blood.. But hardly to tell as still bleeding anyway tmi

Are they soluble? It might be doing what It's supposed to do. I never examined my few stitches. It wasn't troublesome so I ignored it :)

That is a possibility as they are dissolvable ones. It was just the tiny open bit that concerned me.. I shrugged it off at first but dp is saying I should get it Checked then my mind starts working overtime..
Like I say there's no pain or anything and always been kept clean etc
Will ring tomorrow and get advice anyway...

I would get it checked. My stitches split and I got an infection. It was incredibly painful and I couldn't sit down. Definitely go and check it does not need to be restitched.

It sounds like it's probably normal. The muscle is stitched separately to the skin, so it could just be that the skin is gaping slightly but this wouldn't cause any problems. If the stitches were coming apart there'd be a much bigger gap. It a difficult area to suture - it can be very swollen after giving birth, and you don't want stitches to the skin to be very tight or they're painful when you move. Also, most of the time your legs are together so any gap disappears and it heals well. As pp says, in the absence of pain, redness or pus it sounds normal.

Regular practice nurse should be able to take a look at that for you

Go to GP surgery. Nurse may be able to look or a GP. It commonly happens and the tear will heal by secondary intention. Sometimes a course of antibiotics is given to cover you in case there is an infection which has caused the breaking down. If you’re struggling to see someone at your surgery then call your maternity unit, however most units won’t see postnatal women and you may be asked to go to A&E to get to an obstetrician.
