I think I'm having early contractions and I'm going to wait it out at home for as long as I can. But my hospital is infected with Norovirus and I know I've been asking daily, is it still possible for me to change hospitals this late without my midwife being informed etc? No mlu as I've just phoned nothing and I really can't let us catch the virus

How far on are you? How far apart are the pains?

Forevertired19 · 24/03/2018 22:12

40 weeks next Thursday and every 20 mins at the moment

I’m sure if you turn up
At a different hospital in labour they won’t turn you away

Tattybogle89 · 24/03/2018 22:13

OK full term sorry I thought you meant labouring early. How close is the next hospital? Have you been advised to avoid the first choice?

Forevertired19 · 24/03/2018 22:15

It's 20 mins away. Around 10 mins difference by car. I haven't but with two auto immune diseases I can't afford to catch the virus nor want to risk newborn ds

Is it the same hospitals trust? Everything went on the paper notes (that you have on your possession) with my birth, so theoretically I could have gone to the other maternity hospital in the Trust.

Tattybogle89 · 24/03/2018 22:19

I would go straight to the other hospital then. Make sure you have your notes

SueGeneris · 24/03/2018 22:22

I would also go to the other one. How stressful for you! As if it isn't hard enough having a baby. Good luck!

Lj8893 · 24/03/2018 22:25

Even though you are staying at home for now I think it's best to give the other hospital a phone call first (now) and explain. They may be able to get your notes across from the other hospital with a bit of warning.

Forevertired19 · 24/03/2018 22:36

Thank you ladies. I'm going to wait an hour as I've not had one in the last 20ish mins since being in the bath but I'm going to wait and then get dp to phone the next hospital. I just need my mom over for dd care but she's still asleep. That's one of the reasons why I need to keep it as long as possible as we don't drive.

Is it the maternity unit that has had the cases of norovirus?

Tattybogle89 · 25/03/2018 05:12

Good luck!!!

Mummyme87 · 25/03/2018 05:52

A lot of hospitals have norovirus at the moment. Is it tournmaternity unit that have it? This would be very unusual.
Taking your notes is great to another unit but they will need to take more bloods from you to process blood group etc in case of an emergency... it’s not ideal rocking up elsewhere unless it is an actual emergency and this one is your closest

Tattybogle89 · 27/03/2018 00:19

@forevertired19 do we have a baby yet!!

Forevertired19 · 27/03/2018 08:20

Sadly not. I'm having pains every 20 mins that are like period type pains (but really bad) since last night. I'm going to try and eat loads of pineapple today and sit on the ball 😂 I'm fed up with being pregnant now

Oh no poor you! A long walk followed by sex (I know.. i know..) kicked it off for me. I started contracting within minutes after sex..

HollowTalk · 27/03/2018 22:57

I really wouldn't just turn up at another hospital without being told to do so by the hospital you're under.

Hope it all goes well, OP! Photo or it didn't happen!
