Can anyone recommend what pram to get?

We are soon to have our first baby and I'm trying to find a pram but feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Ideally I'd be looking for something that's light weight, easy to fold, can fit into a tiny space and will last from birth as long as possible. I also liked the look of the ones that you can attach a car seat to the frame. A shopping basket and rain cover would be good too, and I'd really like something front facing while the baby is new born.

So not many requirements then!! I guess the most important thing is that it fits into a tiny car boot and will last a while.

The problem is we haven't got a very big budget. I don't think we could afford to spend any more than £500 on a pram but ideally that would include anything needed to make the pram front facing and hopefully a car seat... but that might be too much to hope for at that price.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Most of the cheap ones I'm finding online aren't compatible with ISOFIX car seats.

To answer your question though... it sounds like your top 2 criteria are folds up tiny and is parent facing as well as forward facing? In which case the Babyzen Yoyo springs to mind. It is expensive but you could look at second hand or keep an eye out for deals. Apparently John Lewis sometimes have good discounts eg when the item has been returned unused but the box is open so they reduce the price.

Look at alternatives to the Yoyo as well of course, but when I was looking for pushchairs with a compact fold I couldn’t find any other parent-facing ones.

I have the venicci pram and I absolutely love it and would recommend it to anyone. it was about 550 with a car seat that you could get a isofix bace separately for on there website. It does everything you would won't it to and fits into our boot fine.

Mamas and papas Urbo 2, does everything you describe and really narrow compared to some. We paid £340 in the sale including the carrycot. I think I got more compliments about the pram than the baby!

Babyzen yoyo. You can buy a newborn conversion thing. Also the adapters to mount a car seat on the frame

Look on mybabiie, their prams range from £250-£500. You have to buy rain covers and changing bags separately but they aren't expensive!

Look at second hand. I think the baby jogger city mini does everything you want, people rave about it, and you can get some real bargains on facebook selling sites etc.

With your budget I'd look into buying a new car seat and base, e.g. Maxi cosi pebble and isofix base, approx £250. Then buy a second hand, good condition Bugaboo Bee. That will see you through until you no longer need a pushchair.

How small is your boot? I have a joie chrome fits an infant carrier, can be parent or forward facing and comes with a carrycot. They are extremely reasonable at around £350 all and light weight. It fitted in my peugot 206 boot. My 17 month old fits in it fine and it’s great in most terrains even worked okay in snow. Mamas and papas urges are good prams too but pricey unless you buy them 2nd hand.

You’re so lucky, I had twins and there are hardly any to choose from. I really like the Egg as a single and its very compact.

Also, realistically, travel systems are heavier and bigger and many people then switch to a cheaper umbrella fold type buggy when their child is older.

Armadillo flip. Wish I'd bought one. Fold small suitable from newborn. Faces both ways and you can attach a car seat (I believe) and should last you till you don't need a pram anymore.

I got Mamas & Papas Urbo2. It's one of the smallest prams I saw. I don't recommend putting the car seat on the frame though - babies should lie flat to promote good spinal development and breathing, not scrunched up in a car seat. The NHS recommends not having a baby in a car seat for more than 2 hours at a time, and there has been research to show that babies can experience adverse effects after as little as 30 minutes in a car seat.

drunk how old is your dc out of interest? I had an evo and found the straps really short. Couldn't fit ds in it past about a year!

I've just done exactly what cheerywave suggests. Secondhand bugaboo bee in brilliant condition with a bunch of accessories plus new maxi Cosi seat and base. Cost about £370 all in and the pushchair will last from newborn until baby is walking. (Second kid so have a bit more idea what we are doing with travel systems this time around)

Second the yoyo recommendation. It’s probably closer to £600 all in including the car seat bits and newborn nest but will ultimately save you money as you won’t be going out and buying an small stroller buggy when baby is 6 months. Also look at the Bugaboo Bee perhaps?!
