I am due to give birth at Barnet general in 8 weeks, feeling a bit anxious following the panaorama programme on Thursday 4th May.

I don't blame you! My jaw was permanently on the carpet through out that whole programme!

My advice, fwiw, is to make sure that you have good birth support with you, maybe even a Doula.

Perhaps you can ask to speak to supervisor of Mw to try and get reassurance that steps are being taken to improve things, if you cannot be reassured then start looking around for a better hospital. I.e. one whose paperpushers have allowed a decent budget for maternity services!

Good luck!

you know, right now, immediately after following the panorama programme is probably the best time to go there as they will have been shamed into completely turning it round and changing their reputation. you may find it will be fabulous by the time you get there.
i agree though the programme was horrific, mde me relsie how lucky i was down here in devon.
i'm with klaw, though, if you can afford it a doula would be a brilliant reassurance int he circumstances- or how about a home birth?

I turned onto that programme when it was on and was horrified.

I had my son there 11 months ago, on the whole I can't complain about the experience, although I think I went into labour on a quiet night! The midwife was quite abrupt but I may of needed that! There wasn't much support after the birth, we were put in a small room by ourselves for 6 hours til we went home, only one person popped her head round the door once. So if you feel you want to talk to anyone or you need any help make sure you know where to find someone.

Good luck!
