Can I request a sweep at 40weeks.

Due date tomorrow. MW tomorrow. As she's been on holiday she'd provisionally booked me in ' just in case' for a sweep at 41 weeks.
However I've got damaged ribs from Coughing / chest infection. Can't x Ray due to pregnancy. Limited to what I can take again due to pregnancy.
And in so much pain trying to move about.

Was wondering whether I could request a sweep to hopefully (I know no guarantee) get things moving a tad. As I'm pretty much stuck in.. Can't drive because of ribs. Which is a hassle for school runs 3 miles away..

Ive previously had a few. Episodes of reduced movement and three growth scan so hopefully they may agree?

I'm certain you can @ExhaustedAndHormonal. I too am due tomorrow (there is a few of us on the March thread also due on the 7th). And I have the midwife this evening. When I was last in they said I could request one at this appointment so would be the same gestation as you.

I had an appointment with MW at 40+1 they offered me a sweep. I declined as it was only one day over and I wasn't in any discomfort. I was hoping nature would step in. It didn't! I'm sure the MW will do one.
All the best x

Our guidelines say offer sweep to first time mums at 40 weeks and others at 41. The argument being that first timers are more likely to go on for longer and others are better at spontaneous labour.
However, it is considered a low risk intervention and I would do it for anyone who asked at 40+ if there was no good reason not to.

It's my second child. Last one was early.
I will. Ask no harm in asking I guess.?

@ExhaustedAndHormonal it's my second too so sure you will be offered one or you can request one and they'll do it for you. I'm going to wait mine out though (so you can have my sweep Grin)

I was booked on to have one the day of my due date! I think she said I could have one every 48 hours after that. He came 6 days before due date so I didn't need one in the end! My sister had to have two to induce labour
