Bum checks

Sorry if this is TMI but I was wondering whether anyone had their bum checked after labour by the midwife?! With my first birth it never happened so I was taken by surprise this time round!

1Strawberry best practice would be to do it for every women regardless of visible tears, however it depends on the midwife. But there has been an increase in missed 3rd/4th degree tears so more midwives are doing it now.

Yeah happened to me both times. I’m expecting it this time too. It’s the only time I have ever agreed to it, probably the gas and air Grin

I had an epidural because DD didn't want to come out when it was crunch time, and I had a huge episiotomy (acc. to my midwife). But I remember vaguely two male doctors (one ob and one registrar who did the ventouse) discussing my sphincter. Whether it was 'intact' or not. No consent asked, no warning, no nothing. Though obviously I couldn't really feel it. I didn't realise at first what they were doing even, until I heard them talk at length about it (in German) and pushing it several times.
The ob sewed me up and then also added a sup against the pain.
It's still a surreal and funny memory for me...

Being warned about this during the antenatal course would have been nice indeed...
