Group Strep B, how did you know

I am past my due date and patiently waiting for my little one to make an appearance.

I have only recently found out about Group strep B and the risks involved. I know NHS dont routinely test for it and feel its too late to send away for a private swab as by the time I get it and send it off baby could be here.

I brought up my worries to my midwife and she reassured that everything should be fine as I have had no signs, although I know alot of women can have this with no signs at all.

Just wondering how those diagnosed with Strep B knew that they had it?

Thanks

Hi, I ordered a private test online which I did and sent back at around 37weeks. Results came back a few days later for positive group b strep. I informed my midwife who put it down on my notes. It meant I needed 4 hours of antibiotics whilst in labour (through a cannula) but my baby decided to make a fast appearance so I only had one hours worth. I had to stay in overnight for baby to be observed but thankfully all was well.

Goingcocoloco I really wish I did this earlier so I would know either way for peace of mind Sad

I've had protein/leucocytes in my urine since week 29 (nearly 34 now) In my 31w routine appoitment i told mw that i was confused as I didnt have any UTI according to the tests they had done but still had something in urine. She decided to ask me for a sweep which came back as positive

Didn't know with my first, only discovered after delivery. Had to stay in hospital an extra night so they could observe but everything fine. Was tested before delivery of second and had it again so had a drip during delivery. All fine.
Don't worry.

I was feeling a weird pressure, like the baby was about to fall out, at around 25 weeks, so I went to the midwife and she tested me for a UTI. I didn't have a UTI but it came up that I did have Group B Strep (I don't think my symptoms had anything to do with that, probably the baby was just sitting funny).

I tested positive on swab at 7 weeks when I had a threatened miscarriage. Had a elective section anyway so didn’t make a difference.

I wasn't tested with my first so have no idea if I had it. Was swabbed after my waters broke with my second but I only found out I had it after she was born (never even heard of it). Wasn't going to be routinely tested with my third but ended up being swabbed at 36 weeks anyway as I thought I may be slowly leaking waters and tested positive so was given antibiotics in labour.
It's all a bit mad really, they take it very seriously once they know you have it, but don't routinely test you for it.
I'd try not to worry about it, you'll be tested if your waters go first, and if not hopefully the risks will be minimal anyway.

Thanks everyone,

my urine samples have been clear so hopefully reduces the risk. iv to go for a sweep on Wednesday so will maybe bring up my worries with the midwife again and see what they say. if they are up there anyway they might stick a swab up too Blush lol.
