Quick question - what to take to theatre for elective section?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Just packing my bag in preparation for elcs in a couple of weeks. Emergency last time so wondering if I need to set some things aside to take down to theatre with us eg. nappy /clothes for baby, snacks for dh in case the wait is long, phone charger (same reason)? Not even sure where we'll be waiting - on the postnatal ward?

Hear stories about waiting all day and want to be prepared!

So, where did you wait? What did you take down with you?

Thanks!

You'll probably be waiting on a ward, so depending on the hospital you'll only need to take a Babygro and nappy.

I was waiting all day in a really uncomfortable chair before mine, as all the beds were full. So def take something to read/ pass the time. When it was finally our turn they just put me in a gown and dp in scrubs, and told me to bring a nappy and a baby hat with me :) and reminded dp to bring his phone - i would have forgotten as my first was an emcs so no chance for pics then, but this time really glad we did. Good luck!

Hi you can’t take anything into theatre apart from baby clothes. Usually wait on antenatal ward or labour ward depending on how busy they are. Smile

Oh and camera or phone for pics

Was lucky to be first on list so didn't need much more than conversational gambits for the Anaesthetist, oh, and music (a CD - but it was a few years ago). Ended up promising that new born would take up the bassoon in their honour Grin. So be careful!

Thanks all! That's really helpful. As long as wherever we wait we're likely to have access to the bag that should be fine.

Poor old DH was asked for a nappy after the EMCS last time - we'd not brought any of the baby stuff in from the car in the chaos of labour, and it definitely didn't cross our mind pelting down the corridor to theatre! Hopefully a much calmer experience this time round, even if there is some waiting around!
