Big baby

Im 35 weeks pregnant this is my first baby and I've been attending regular growth scans- at 35 weeks my baby is weighing at 7 pounds, the doctor has suggested doing a sweep at 37 weeks which is in 2 weeks time. I'm very anxious that my cervix isn't favourable then and I go nearly full term, the thought of my baby getting stuck because of the size scares the hell out of me!! Any positive stories from delivering big babies vaginally would be nice ?? 

The size (unless they area 10lb plus isn’t usually the reason for delivery problems. Ore often it’s the position of the baby in relation to the pelvis. My last was 9lb 13oz, not even a stitch and now a tiny adult. My first was my smallest and most complicated.
A wound up, nervous mother isn’t good for delivery so try and relax and stop fretting.

Yes, I delivered my 10lb son on my living room floor with no pain relief and barely a graze. Im not saying it was easy, but in many ways, it was my favourite birth out of the three, even though the others were smaller. I had such a lovely midwife, and my dp really shone with his support, and whilst it was hard work and the feel of a baby that size crowning is unlike anything else, It is true what they say about bigger babies doing a lot of the work for themselves. Let it happen, dont fight it, and it will be fine. Baby will come out whatever. I couldnt BELIEVE it when i realised that I hadnt even tore as i was convinced I would have. Get a really good supportive birth partner who will be your advocate and realise this is not something you can control, so go with it xx

My 11lb 14oz middle child was the easiest birth of the three (others 8lb 4oz and 6lb 9oz). He was born quite quickly, apparently the extra weight helps so bigger babies can be easier than small. Least damage on the way out as well :o

Thanks for all the positive stories!! When reading on the internet people only ever tend to put negative ones lol. Don't get me wrong I'm over the moon that she's growing big and is nice and healthy but I more worry for her incase she gets stuff and distressed! Your all right though I guess nothing can prepare you for what may or may not happen and positivity is the key

Don't worry, it's head circumference that matters not body weight, fat squishes! And even with big heads you can get away without stitches.

Dc apparently had a large head, when it was doing the stinging bit while coming out, I tried to not push to prolong it so skin could stretch rather than tear. It worked!

I really echo what others have said above. I had a baby who was over 10lb and it was the best labour! I had to have an episiotomy but that honestly sounds much, much worse than it is! My body totally took over. I didn't have to push at all; it was utterly incredible and I sobbed like a baby afterwards! Don't worry about it, whatever will be will be and its best to be as relaxed as possible,

10lb 11oz here! Straight forward. No problems. I didn’t even want a second dose of diamorphine like I did with first baby, so pushed this one out on gas and air. I’m a total wimp with pain too. If I can do it, anyone can!

9lb 11oz and no tears or interventions!
