Post c section poo!

Please someone help me I’m in agony. Had a c section two days ago, all went amazingly! But I’m in agony (to be expected) and need to go to the toilet thanks to all of the peppermint tea but I can’t bend to sit on the toilet without crying in pain (even weeing is painful!) is there a trick to it?
Have been discharged on only paracetomal and ibuprofen and although in pain I just want to poo! Sounds gross but I feel like if I could do it standing it would work... forgot how utterly painful this all is!

Lactulose!! Take some it’ll make going so much easier. I’ve had two sections and swear by it

Iworrytoomuchh · 27/01/2018 09:29

Also if anyone has any tips for pain relief in general I’d appreciate it! Struggling...

Suspend your dignity and either stand in the bath with some water in it or lay some newspaper in the bath. No one will know.
Good luck

No tips other than keep going with high fibre, lots of water and lactulose. Once that first poo is over paracetamol is just fine for the pain. Also had two CS and also swear by lactulose!

ObiJuanKenobi · 27/01/2018 09:34

I wasn't discharged until I was able to poo after my EMCS with my twins Blush I remember it hurting a lot but I felt much much better after! Paracetamol should see you through Thanks

Tilly35 · 27/01/2018 09:35

Bucket? Older kids potty? Good luck

Tilly35 · 27/01/2018 09:40

Also pain relief in general I cut the legs out of a pair of pre preg tights and put the band on, I felt better supported around the wound. Also a bag or plastic backed bed liner under your bum to slide to sitting position in the night. Have someone have a look at your wound if it feels sharp pain in any one place.

beewales · 27/01/2018 09:41

Had my second section nearly 4 weeks ago so I feel your pain! Agree that fibre, drinking orange juice, lactulose and keeping hydrated will all help. Make sure you're taking the pain killers regularly - I could feel it as soon as I'd gone over 4 hours in those first few days. It gets so much better once you've managed that poo and after the first few days. Good luck!

AutumnalTed · 27/01/2018 09:41

Do it in the shower!

GrumpyOldBagFace · 27/01/2018 09:47

Talk to your HV about the pain. My HV got my GP to prescribe an amazingly strong anti inflammatory but I can't remember what it's called at the minute! I think it might have been naproxen??

Iworrytoomuchh · 27/01/2018 13:00

Thanks everyone, am awaiting lactulose then will attempt (again!) Thanks for advise r.e pain, god it’s awful! Everyone said the pain is easier after an elective than my previous EMCS but I feel like my insides are falling out! They’ve tried to put me on 6 hourly paracetomal, 8 hourly ibuprofen but it’s too long between pain relief. Hoping Midwife or HV will turn up soon and can help in some way!

I was off my box in pain 48h after my second csection and needed oramorph.

The contracting uterus pains were out of this fucking world but all over by day 3.

You’re in the eye of the storm and having a mammoth in the departure lounge won’t be helping either.

If you like them then prunes plus lactulose will have you going in no time. Prunes I found the most effective.

Congrats on the new arrival x

WeeM · 27/01/2018 13:06

Oh god I remember it well but can’t really offer any advice! I think I just grinned and bested it in the end Confused. I was prescribed paracetamol and diclofenac though to be taken together...seem to remember that worked well.

WeeM · 27/01/2018 13:07

Beared not bested!

cobaltblue27 · 27/01/2018 18:06

Hello,

First poo is horrendous but as others have said so much better afterwards. Don’t take codeine as it plugs you up more. Lactulose worked for me. Good luck! Xx

Iworrytoomuchh · 28/01/2018 09:12

Thanks so much everyone. Lactulose and coffee did the trick, boy do I feel better! Pain is starting to get better I think but it’s just the contractions that I’m sure I didn’t have with my first that are really killing me! Coming into day 3 now so hoping it’s all up from here & I can start enjoying my newborn without wincing!

The best tip I had after my ELCS was to hold a sanitary pad against the stitch area. Sounds like it would do nothing but it did help. I remember feeling so delicate and like my tummy would pop open. It was ok in the end that helped more than water etc because it was more the feeling of not being able to straighten out / push that was the issue. I’m hoping you’re feeling better now anyway but just I’m case someone else has same issue I thought I should post.

Also I took codeine for pain too when I needed it, it hurt so much paracetamol was not enough despite midwife making me feel a failure. Dr instantly prescribed codeine which helped and I only needed it for a day or two at the start.

Hairgician · 31/01/2018 20:21

Another vote for paracetamol and diclofenac here. And lactulose. They also wanted me to have had a poo before going home. Fuck me it was grim. Sweaty mess gripping the rails 😂😂 fucking huge it was too and like concrete! Not looking forward to that over again!!

Had my fifth c section three weeks ago tomorrow and afterwards I could t go for 6 days..... took loads of movicol and lactulose and managed in the end but it was quite painful
