Hi hi. I had my first at Glos Royal 2 years ago. I was on the birthing floor for almost the whole labour, then transferred to delivery for a spinal and forceps.

I'd say it was fine, though I was tripping off my tits on gas and air for a lot of it and have patchy memory. I had a room with a pool, that was good.

I was open to having an epidural but went from 'not dilated enough' to 'fully dilated, too late' so quickly I didn't have a chance to ask for it. One thing I would say is that I wasn't checked that often. If you're 100% sure you want an epidural then make it clear as soon as you go in and maybe get them to do some extra checks so you don't miss your window of opportunity!

Afterwards we got a private room because the wards were full, so I can't comment on the wards, sorry.

Also we turned up way early and they tried to send us home because I wasn't 3cm, which would have been pretty shit, so maybe make sure your labour's established before getting in the car. Though it's very hard to tell with your first because you've never done it before! In fairness my DS was back-to-back and labour FELT very established right from the start Hmm

I'm sure it'll be fine for you. I liked it as I wanted to be in a birthing centre with immediate access to delivery suites if needed, and Glos is great for that. Best of both worlds.

I had my twins there this summer and they were amazing.
I asked for an epidural as soon as my contractions started and they got it sorted (although took a couple of hours as anaesthetist was in surgery)

I stayed 4 days on the mat Ward.. they were fab but it was busy. I then transferred elsewhere for a few more days.

Happy for you to pm me :)

Recently moved to the Forest of Dean so will be giving birth at glos
Second baby
Possibility of being induced because of how quick my first labour was, so will be going straight to delivery suite but am really hoping for a pool!
Nice to hear of positive experiences
When are you due? X

I was transferred there from a midwife centre in 2014. They were amazing. I needed an epidural. It went really well and I could top it up myself so still felt contractions.

I was there
