When your induced does your labour start when they you're given the first pessary, when your waters are broken or when your contractions are started? Always wondered and can never answer how long my labour was!

Also when do they use forceps and when do they use ventouse, always wondered this too.

TIA x

In principle "labour" starts when you are 3 cm dilated with contractions no more than 3 minutes apart, I think -- whether you're induced or not.

Someone in my NCT class who was an obstetric registrar said that to an extent it depends on which the doctor feels more confident using.

Yep, 3cm dilated is officially 'established' labour.
