Post-section peppermint

Hi everyone,

I'm having a c-section on Thursday and have a question about peppermint.

I remember being given some sort of peppermint substance post-section with dd1 and it really helped to settle the wind/bloating. However it wasn't offered when I had dd2 and even when I asked for some it never materialised.

I'd like to try and take some with me to the hospital this time but I don't really know what it is that I need. The only thing I can think to get is peppermint tea but I'm sure that wasn't what it was. It was more a kind of gloopy syrup. Any ideas where I can get something like this?

Tbh I would be careful as I believe peppermint is supposed to reduce breastmilk production, if that matters to you.

If not, plain peppermint tea and crack on!

Lactulose was the only thing that offered me relief after a section. Could feel a fart going round my whole body - what a weird sensation haha.
Interesting about the peppermint if that's true it explains an awful lot for me.

Some antacid drugs are peppermint flavoured which this sounds very like.

Ooh watching
Had this when I had a section with Ds
But couldn’t find anything in shops that was the same for when I was at home (well DM couldn’t find anything, I sent her out to get something as was still suffering).
Have another section booked in a week and haven’t managed to find anything. Hopefully they have it in the hospital at least!

When I worked in the hospital we had a bottle of peppermint on the drugs trolley and gave it in hot water after sections. I also took it myself when I had terrible trapped wind working nights 😂. It’s usually on the drugs trolley on a postnatal Ward.

Ahh thanks everyone! Tedster that looks like the stuff. Any idea if I can get it from a pharmacy?

You can buy peppermint oil capsules in the vitamin section of pharmacies and supermarkets. I took them after my hysterectomy to help with wind. I’m not sure they worked but I don’t think they hindered either.

Just found it on Amazon but it won't get here in time. And it costs £18! Shock

Holland and Barrett do peppermint capsules. I took some in with me for a section, they are a blessed relief!

Good luck on Thursday

I have never heard of peppermint affecting milk supply. I had a section and took peppermint oil and drank a lot of peppermint tea and had big lack of supply issues! I'm so glad I read this thread in case I have another baby. Thank you. Good luck op, that wind pain is a nightmare.

The peppermint did nothing for me. I remember what it was like after the lactulose tho haha
