Refused stitching - will it be ok?

Had a bit or a dramatic birth ( maybe that should say traumatic)..which resulted in an internal tear. I refused to have it stitched because I just couldn't take any more after the birth...mw did say it would heal on it's own but I'm a bit worried...will it be ok? (on my notes it says it was a 2nd degree perineal tear) Any advice appreciated.

If it was a second degree tear the skin on the outside should be torn a little bit too. It will heal on it's own - just keep the area clean. Have a couple of baths a day (no need to put anything in the water) or rinse the srea with the showerhead.

Midwife must have been happy that it was small enough otherwise she would have stressed strongly that it needed stitched.

Thanks very much. That's really put my mind at ease. Think I'm worrying cos under normal circumstances I'm quite happy to do as advised.

Thanks Lulumama. Think it was all a bit quick and mw didn't believe I was in labour. Thanks for those links...I'll save them and see how I feel when everything 'settles back' to normal.

no worries, sometimes a quick labour can take a while to process, congratulations !

Thanks.

Oh and thanks for all your advice, I know you probably don't have a clue who I am but whenever I've been looking for advice on labour I've always found your advice helpful. (In fact you helped get my labour started with your suggestion of sex after a sweep!!! )
