home birth in Ayrshire

Hi ladies. I am moving to Ayrshire (Galston ) and am pregnant with my 4th child. Currently only 12.5 weeks. But we will be in Ayrshire for the birth God willing. I had my last baby at home on water and it was perfect. I'd love to home birth again. The midwives where I live now in North Wales r very pro home birth.. they love it! I am wondering what the general view is in Ayrshire and if the MW'S are just as positive about home births. Anyone know? Thank you x

I'm in North Ayrshire and at my booking appointment I made it clear I wasn't keen on home birth and the MW did say to me to read up on it and that I'd maybe change my mind so I'm guessing she felt positive about it. I don't actually know of anyone who has had a home birth. In fact I know one but that was only because she didn't make it to hospital on time. I don't think it is that common around here but I might be wrong. Hopefully someone will be able to give you a better insight than I can!

Hi thanks for the reply. Good to know they asked u about it.. HB is amazing btw! I felt like if been cheated out of such a positive experience with my other two after I'd had my 3rd at home. It was so different. But it's not for everyone. I'd be keen to k ow if there's a HB face book group as there is one in my area.

I can imagine it would be amazing however I am not the kind of person who would be calm enough for it 😂 my first labour I had an epidural straight away so for my second I wrote in my birth plan I wanted to try as natural as possible, birth pool, no pain relief etc. I ended up with HELLP Syndrome so my birth plan went out the window.....I wasn't allowed an epidural so got to experience no pain relief and it did not go down well with me. A home birth would just make me panic but can see why people choose it, would be a lovely experience. I'm not sure but there is a Facebook page for the maternity unit called NHS Ayrshire Maternity Unit. The maternity unit is fantastic I can't praise the staff enough, give them a message I'm sure they will point you in the right direction.

I have definitely seen signs up for an Ayrshire Doula and homebirthing. If you google Daisy Birthing Ayrshire you make get more info from there?

And Galston isn't too far from Crosshouse should you have to try get there, hopefully you ll get your home birth!

Also there's a fb group positive birth Glasgow which covers Ayrshire too.

Current Health Secretary, Shona Robison, is aiming for 90% of births in Scotland to be at home or in midwife units. 5 areas are in the pilot starting next year. Not sure if Ayrshire is one of them.

I'm central Glasgow, so not Ayreshire I know, but I was offered a home birth at my booking appointment. I said no, but the midwife was keen to promote it, and similar to a previous poster, said I should have a think about it.
