Changing hospitals at 18 weeks

Hi there.

My partner and I are 18 weeks pregnant and have had a scan at two midwife appointments through Princess Royal University Hospital in Orpington.

They've been fine but I've been hearing great things about St Thomas's in central London from colleagues and friends.

I wondered how difficult it is to change where we want to have the baby at this stage? Who would we even contact about the change?

Are we best to leave things as they are?

Thank you :)

I changed at about 38 wks with #2, so I would have thought it was do-able? Talk to your midwife or GP, perhaps look up details for new hospital maternity unit and contact them too?

I changed at 30 and 32 weeks. First time we moved house. Second time didn't like original hospital I chose. Just asked midwife. Not a problem.

I had my second at St Thomas, wasn't booked in. Went into premature labour in London. They were fantastic for the labour, but the postnatal ward was incredibly busy. They now also allow partners to stay on ward - that might be a positive for you - it would be a definite negative for me. The partners were bad enough in the day!

I just had my second baby in st thomas on Monday, and compared to my
First labour at kings it wasn't busy at all. I cannot fault st thomas amazing care and midwives.

Same as Duckstar; I changed hospitals at 28 weeks due to moving and again at 36 weeks due to hearing better things about the unit at another hospitals. No problems either time and just spoke to my midwife.

Brilliant. Thanks everyone. Will ask the midwife then. Excited to hear how good St Thomas's is too!

I changed my hospital in 3rd month of pregnancy. I was afraid about services of new one. I changed due to the long travelling distance. It was one of good hospitals. It was easy to change it in the early pregnancy. I just needed to fulfil some documentation for it. At my 32 weeks, I had again needed to change hospital. This time I was going to another city. I wanted to gave birth the child in my home town. But my doctor said it would not be safe to change at this time. I was travelled by air. It was a risky decision. I decided to wait until baby came out. After two and half weeks of , I moved to my home town.
