Present for new mum?

Okay so I have no children at the minute (ttc) but my bestfriend is currently pregnant as her baby daddy isnt involved ive been asked to be her birth partner Grin im so excited! I wanted to get her a little gift for after the baby is born that is just for her, something to say thank you for letting me be there at such a special time and show her how much she means to me but i have no idea. I want to get something that is for HER rather than the baby as im sure there will be an influx of baby gifts.
I wanted to know if anyone had any ideas of something fitting, maybe you recieved something really useful or meaningful? Is there anything you would have reallly appreciated in the weeks/months after giving birth?

I have had many dc and many gifts over the years!!!
One I never had and would have loved would have been a monthly magazine subscription for the lengthy bf sessions involved!!

A bit boring but I would have appreciated a nice new pyjama set (loose and baggy - super comfortable ones), a fluffy bathrobe to wrap myself in during night feeds and a travel mug for my tea! A couple of frozen lasagnes would also have gone down well Grin

Button down pjs and a 2 pack of nursing vests, one of those huge boxes of Green and Blacks miniatures and a voucher for Cook. That's what I would want if I had another baby.

Oh and an extension lead for her phone charger so that her battery doesn't rub out 5 minutes into a cluster feeding session. Also the Costa travel mugs are the best ones that I've found for not making tea taste odd.

Some lovely ideas and some i wouldnt have thought of (magazine etc) she is planning on bf so some of these would def be handy! x

Some friends of mine sent me 24 muffins from an online company. Various flavours. They were amazing when my dh was out and I needed a quick bit of food with a cuppa. If she is on her own then I'm sure she'd love them too.

I think if it was a gift to say "thank you for asking me to be your birth partner", a picture of the three of you in a frame, with a note to say what it meant for you to be involved, would be a nice gift. She can keep that forever.

Plus chocolate.

My parents bought my a teddy bear charm for my charm bracelet to "represent" me becoming a mum. Could something like that work?

Most useful things that I received were a light nightgown (used it a lot in the hospital) and nipple cream!

A bracelet, necklace or item of jewellery which will always remind her of your friendship as well as the birthday? Maybe incorporating the infinity symbol or circle of life?

Ps. Have a small stockpile of paracetamol and ibuprofen just in case she suffers from afterpains. I was not prepared for these and had to ask visiting friends to bring me extra!

Time. The gift of time. Give her a voucher that says 'at any time you can call me and I'll come round and cook dinner, rock the baby to sleep or just talk to you while you feed. This voucher is valid 24/7"

Failing that, Netflix subscription inc Google ChromeCast & the app on her phone which you can play on the tv at the touch of a button (no trying to find remote when bfeeding)

What a gorgeous considerate friend you are!! I'm not talking about the present but being her birth partner with such an open heart when you're trying to conceive yourself. I went through IVF with my husband and I'm ashamed to say that I near abandoned my friends who either had babies or were expecting - it ruined me (selfish - I know, I'm ashamed of myself...)
So you're doing the most wonderful thing already! I'm very impressed Smile

I'm expecting now myself at last...

In terms of gifts - have you thought about something fragrant?? Something that when she smells it in a couple of years time will take her straight back to these wonderful heady days!!! Also smells can be calming and can make someone feel enveloped with a specialness.

Once again - I think you're ace - what a special friend you are - your friend will be SO blessed to have you there, you star x

Sorry garden but this is not a great one - newborn babies need to smell mum and milk and stuff like that, not perfume.
