Offered a sweep at 38 weeks

Hello everyone.

I've had an extra scan today and obs appointment as my measurements had jumped up, it seems the baby has had a growth spurt and is set to be 8.8lb at 40 weeks, my first was 7.8lb and I am 5foot nothing so 8.8 seems quite big to me!

Because of this I've been told I can have a sweep at 38 weeks as an earlier labour would be better. But we all agreed no induction until 40 weeks.

However I have DS1's third birthday party at 38+1 midwife I'd see at 38+2, then DS1's actual birthday at 38+4. I really really really don't want to muck up any of DS's celebrations or for them to have the same birthday. I know I am being totally PFB about DS1 Grin and if things happen they happen - I just don't want to play a part in making them happen when we are focusing on him.

So I'm thinking I'll ask mw if there's a way to have a sweep at 38+5 after all the celebrations are done.

I wondered what people's experiences are of sweeps? I've seen very varied stories from friends. FWIW, this baby has already given us a couple of false starts and I feel ready for it to arrive so I'm hoping that would mean if I did have one it would be effective.

What do you think?

8.8lb really isn't a big weight if I'm honest so I'd just let the baby come when it's ready...FWIW I'm 5"2 and my last baby was 8lb 11oz.

If you are really adamant you want a sweep I'd personally stick with the 40 weeks. That's full full term and if you want to be PFB with your son that gives him 2 weeks to enjoy his birthday and feel like it was important not just get it out the way so I can have a baby if you see what I mean.

Good luck whatever you decide

Oh and growth scans are notoriously wrong - my first was tracking to be about 8lb and he came out at 5lb 13. The second was estimated to come out at around 6lb and was 8lb 11. I had a sweep with my second at 40+1 and nothing happened no twinges or show. Baby came at 40+4 and I think that was just because she was ready
