Does anyone know if this is a thing?

Case study
Woman aged 28, second pregnancy. Severe spd pin both, gestational diabetes, big babies. First birth, emergency section, boy nearly died, 11lb baby, severe trauma, severe spd. Nine months of therapy, including EMDR for ptsd. Second baby, birth approaching, all appears to be going the same way.

Pregnancy is hard work, from ten weeks spd has started in both, and first time ended up with crutches and nearly in a wheelchair. Second, using one crutch from 16 weeks. Planned section this time.

Would a sterilisation be considered? For the woman's safety and sanity?
Another pregnancy could cripple, or cause irreparable damage.
I don't even know if sterilisation is a thing during sections anymore, I know it used to be...

Yes, it can be done then.

You need to talk to your consultant, because there is some conflict between the convenience of doing it whilst in there, and the best practice guidelines which state that neither sex should be sterilised in the months immediately following a major life change (and childbirth counts as such an event).

Do be aware that there is some evidence that the fail rate is slightly higher when the op is done at time of CSec (possibly because everything is slightly distended at the time which might make it easier for a chip to wander).

I had an ELCS for my third child last year. At my pre-op I was asked if I wanted to be sterilised while they were in there. So it definitely can be done.

It defo can be done. I'm 33 yrs old got a 4 yr old and 16 month old and also 38 wks pregnant with a surprise baby. I asked at my original midwife appointment if I could have a c-section(2nd baby was a Emergency section) and also if I could be sterilised as This baby was a surprise (much wanted tho) whilst on pill dr explained risks etc and agreed to it.

I am booked in on Thursday for section and sterilisation so can defo be done.

Yes I'm having a planned c section on 10 days and at my last consultants appointment at 36 weeks. My consultant asked me if I wanted to be sterilised. I'm 40 next year and after this baby I'll have two children.

I was totally unprepared for this offer as I wasn't expecting to be asked this during our discussion about an elective section. Yes we only want 2 but I'm going to decline the offer.
It's too final, not always 100% effective and recovery can take longer. ( if it stopped my periods and menopause then I'd feel different but no so I'll decline)

I might even have to have a hysterectomy at a later date as I have a huge fibroid but I'll cross that bridge when and if it comes to that.
