ECV with a Footling Breech

Hello I'm 38+5 and found out today that my baby is not only breech but Footling breech, just wondered if anyone had a ECV and if the baby did turn. Obuviously I don't have long until the baby is due and if the possibility is very slim that it will turn because it's footling breech and it is estimated 8lb 5oz I seem to make big babies. I don't want to cause my baby any stress or risk going into labour for trying to turn the baby face it isn't really a possible? Thank you.

Generally they say it's about a 50:50 chance of it being successful, and of those that are successful a very small percentage turn back breech after. But it depends on the person doing it, position of the baby etc. I was told you have a better chance of success with a footling or flexed breech than with an extended (legs stretched out) breech. My baby is extended breech position and I did choose to have them attempt an ECV, but it failed.

You will be monitored before, during and after the procedure and they will act if baby becomes distressed or it causes your waters to break.

You have to weigh up the risks - I felt the risks of complications of an ECV were lower than that of a C Section so I felt it was worth a try to possibly avoid a section - but it's a personal choice, and I know my decision was likely affected by the fact I've had problems with spinal anaesthetics before and really wanted to avoid having another one.

Have you been offered an ECV? My trust don't do them after 38 weeks.

I had it done this morning and they managed to turn it!! So as long as it stays down now then everything is good. Thank you for your reply. Xx
