Lochia after a C section ( sorry ,a bit grim)

I had my baby by C section about 5 weeks 5 days ago. I am still having lochia and although it had settled into a brownish discharge today I have just found a big red clot with lots more bright red.
Should I be worried?
On average how long should it last

6 weeks or so is average

might it be you have suddenly got a bit more active, that can start the bleeding again?

any pain? temperature? have you your 6 week check this coming week? maybe mention it then....

Thanks
no pain etc but I am back in the car and have been relatively busy. It did say this on the website I just looked at. Not sure when 6 week check will be (might be at 8 weeks)

if you carry on passing big clots, might be worth speaking to someone sooner rather than later, esp if you develop pain or temp , as might be an infeciton....but more than likely due to increase in activity !

My lasted a good 6 weeks and was dying off by the time it was my 6 week check (which I had at 7 weeks last time). I wasn't fully 'right' until my period tbh. I'd mention it if you are concerned but wouldn't worry. I've had 2 sections and the lochia was worse 2nd time because I was far too active (and kept getting told off by the midwife).

I will keep an eye on it.

Mine went three days after a section then came back at week 5 with a vengence and it was an infection so if you are going to the GP mention it and get a swab done. It took me two months to get rid of the infection because I thought it was normal and so didn't seek help.

BetsyBoop · 26/03/2007 21:16

mine lasted about 9weeks, although the last 3 weeks were mainly brownish

I asked at my postnatal check & was told it was normal so long as I had no temp or smelly discharge (i.e. signs of infection)

Bleeding continued for 6 weeks. Early on i had clots and the midwife asked to see them - had to wrap them in clingfilm! I know, totally gross but at least she could check there was nothing weong and put my mind at rest.

i was 10 farkign long weeks
but no clot or owt

I've had very little discharge. It was only a dribble and only lasted for about 2 weeks. The consultant explained that is was so little because during a c/s they suck most of the locia out during the op.
