Moments after c section

Having my first child and c section on Tuesday, getting nervous now and no one at the hospital he explained how it all works.

What do the staff do with my baby the immediate seconds after extraction?
How long is it before I hold him?
What happens to me immediately after?

Have been watching one born every minute and they seem to place him onto the mother within the first five seconds.

my 2nd was c-section, held him straight away, similar timescales to normal delivery. GET C-SECTION KNICKERS!!!

And the baby is breech and I have gestational diabetes hence the need for c section.

my was breech as well! lol recovery all depends on how you heel, i was up and about with 9hrs, felt like stomachs was going to fall out at times but the knickers helped and i wanted to get home asap, the more you move (gently) the faster you heal as blood gets pumping etc...etc.... get a cushion with you, when you cough you feel like you stomachs is going to drop out

It's up to you. You can have immediate skin to skin on your chest or ask that your birth partner does. Or you can ask for them to be wrapped up first.

With both of mine the theatre was cold so I had a brief cuddle on my chest, then they took them away to wrap them up a bit and dh brought them back. I then had them on my chest for the 15/20 mins while I was stitched and then had them put inside my gown for their first feed. They then stayed in bed with me.

I had c-section as DD was breech. It was super quick they handed we to DH fist, he put her on me but I was number from just below boobs and didn't feel safe with her at first so DH held her skin to skin until we were in recovery room, which was lovely for him. Then attempted feeding for first time in recovery

I also went home he next day, had op at 1pm, I was signed off my doctor at 9am next day and went home that evening

I was discharged 12hrs after my first cs. I had sensation back while in recovery and was up within 2-3hrs and showering after 5hrs. Never took a single painkiller. I was extremely lucky.

You'll have time to ask more questions before the op. Make a list if you need to.

I had drapes down so could see him being born, they then took him to the side of the theatre for the paediatrician to check him over (was 5 weeks early), DH went with him, then he was wrapped in a towel and hat and brought over to me. I could have had him on my chest but felt a bit claustrophobic due to the proximity of the drapes so DH held him. Took another 20 minutes or so to sew me up then we went next door to the recovery room where I had skin to skin for an hour so and DS had a breastfeed. Then we were taken up to the postnatal ward.

They gave mine a very quick check, just a minute or two before passing to (x)p. I was fine with this as I'm a huge worrier and was happy to know they were ok. I had to adjust myself a little to try and hold my dc but tbh it was really tricky as I was so shaky and scared I would drop them. In the end xp held them next to me and I waited until recovery. My consultant encouraged skin to skin, I just didn't feel safe to do it straight away.

Mine was whisked to a table to be checked over etc and then wrapped so tightly and swished in front of my face - then taken to recovery room for a bath - I could hear her crying and I couldn't move (numb and being stitched) it was horrendous!!! Never again

I wanted the screen down so I could see but I could see in the light fittings anyway - if somewhat curved

They can hand the baby to you. I asked that he be cleaned and weighed and handed to me.
We did skin to skin while i was stitched up. The doctors were chatting away with us. It was a lovely time.

Once you are stitched up the doctors will leave. The nurses put a pad between my legs and wheeled me over to the High dependency Unit. I had 15 mins obs and was offered tea and toast.

I attempted immediate skin to skin with both of mine but I tend towards low blood pressure and both times BP kept crashing and I felt sick and faint so DH did skin to skin until I was out of theatre. Was grand once stitched up though!

Just had my second CS a couple of days ago. Once DD was out they showed her to us over the curtain, told us the sex and took her to the baby station about 6 feet away for her APGAR checks and for DH to cut the cord. Once that was all done they came back and we had skin to skin for the rest of the procedure. Staff were great and took loads of pictures for us.

Once in recovery she latched and was fed all the way back to the ward. We went home 24 hours later.

They handed him to me after 5 secs after quick usual checks. It was very surreal :D 'um thanks what do I do with this then' but really, absolutely fine and am glad I didn't have to give birth (also breech).

After DS was born they took him over to the side to clean him up, weigh him, check him over, do apgar etc and then wrapped him in a towel. DH has been with him during the check and came back to me with baby so I could meet him for the first time. I didn't hold him or have him on my chest whilst still in theatre as they first were sewing me up and then I got the shakes really bad from the drugs so once we were in recovery we did skin to skin and tried breastfeeding.

Have a chat pre-op with your midwife and ask her what will happen and make your requests of what you want. Normally if baby is alright and healthy, the midwives will be very accommodating to your wishes.

They gave dd to dh. I felt too crap - low BP, blood loss - to hold her. He held her til we went to recovery room, then I held her, she bf, then the nurse weighed and washed her.
