Stretch and sweep - disappointed

Hello. I'm currently 40+1 with dc2. I had my stretch and sweep yesterday and wasn't expecting much. But yesterday afternoon/evening I was having strong tightening/contractions and really thought something was going to happen. So I went to bed and much to my disappointment they stopped completely.
I have woken up this morning with nothing. Has anyone else experienced this? Are the contractions an after effect of the stretch and sweep or does that mean labour could be on its way??

Hi had contractions start after a stretch and sweep and then they died down towards the evening. When I woke up the next day they started up again (especially when I was upright and active as sitting down seemed to send them away again)and got progressively stronger throughout the day. I was able to go about normal day to day stuff but was obvious to me I was having contractions. By the evening I was watching tv and they got more and more uncomfortable and I think I went to hospital about midnight. Was a bit too soon at hospital really but they were quiet and let me stay. Baby born the next morning.

So they may well start up again - move around loads, stay upright and get bouncing on a birthing ball if you have one. Good luck!

Oh and it was probably mid morning they started again I can't quite remember so keep positive and don't assume they've gone for good.

I was told that sweeps are only successful around 20-25% of the time and the success is dependent on dilation/effacement/baby's position etc.

I've had four children - all overdue. Only one sweep worked, and that was at 42 weeks, when I was 3cm and basically ready to go anyway.

I had 5 sweeps in 5 days from 41 weeks. Had no contractions or anything but each day I was dilated a cm further. Might just be even though your contractions are stop start things may still be happening.
