How quickly did your third child arrive?

I'm expecting our third child soon and getting really anxious about the speed of delivery and wondered if anyone had any experiences they could share?

I know third babies tend to come faster, my other two births were pretty average, long time for the first, shorter for the second.

I'm really afraid of giving birth at home or half way to the hospital, I would much rather be in the hands of professionals.

How common is it that they come super fast and am I likely to get caught out with little or no warning signs?

TIA

First was about four hours, second was about 2.5 hours, third and fourth were just over an hour - I'm too scared and broke and tired to have another 🙈😁

I looked up speed times for thirds on here and iirc they were meant to be the curve ball birth - some who had fast previous briths had a slow one and vice Versace - sorry but congratulations and good luck, I used breathing/hypnobirth techniques for my third/fourth and felt so much more in control - even the midwife commented on it.

*vice versa - where the hell did my autocorrect get Versace from?

70 minutes from 1st contraction to arrival. Fortunately I was in hospital after a day of unsuccessful induction attempts and had been put on a ward overnight. Poor DH had just got home but managed to get back to hospital in the nick of time!

DC1 was about 5 hours, DC2 about 2.5.

Just under 30 mins. Delivered by dh. You probably didn't want to hear that..... Sorry.

Slow early labour for about 24 hours, went to bed pissed off, woke when my waters went and he was here in under an hour. Planned homebirth and the midwives arrived about 15 minutes before he did as DH was on the phone to labour ward psyching himself up to deliver this baby Grin

My third was longer than the second. Same with my cousin's labours.

I don't think it's always easy to predict!

I had such a brilliant birth with DC2, I was hoping for a nice fast relatively painless one the third time but it was longer.

started having contractions at about 4am... oh God. I've forgotten what time I delivered! It was hours later. I was surprised. I expected DC3 to slip on out. DC3 was a longer labour than DC2 who was about 5 hours. I know that much. DC1 was 24 hours. Oy vey!

Life has been successfully and sufficiently been sucked out of me. 3 is the magic number for us!

JellyJ · 05/07/2017 00:02

DC2 and DC3 were fairly quick (3-3.5 hours from first contraction), had time to get to hospital but I did go in pretty quickly on both occasions. I've heard that 3rd is often not quite as quick as 2nd and this was true for me.

See, I wrote 'been' twice in my last sentence. That's Third Child Fatigue for you! Wink

olaflikeswarmhugs · 05/07/2017 00:06

2 hours. I very nearly didn't make it to hospital by the time I got the older kids ready and to my parents. That was one crazy car ride. Probably not helping ... Sorry !!! 😳🙈

perhapstomorrow · 05/07/2017 00:10

1st was c section
2nd was 4 hours
3rd 30 mins!! Luckily was in hospital already due to high bp.

BackforGood · 05/07/2017 00:20

Midwife did tell me when I arrived that 3rd babies often take quite a bit longer than the 2nd.... she reckoned 1st usually took ages, 2nd was really quick, but 3rd often hung around longer than the 2nd.

OK, not in my case, but trying to reassure you.

mummyofgirls3 · 05/07/2017 09:12

Thank you all! I guess it's just a mixed bag..,I can only hope for the best. I just can't remember having any early warning signs with the other two until contractions started.

I don't recall any changes to mood, bowel, back pain etc. that you are sometime told to look out for. Definitely had a show for DD2 so that was easier and it was some time from there...

Oh for a crystal ball!

1st was 7 hrs
2nd was 1hr 45
3rd was 45 mins (I was already in the hospital)

Good luck!

emsyj37 · 05/07/2017 20:08

1st waters broke first, 4.5 hrs from first contraction to 10cm - then c section
2nd waters broke first, 6 hrs from start to finish
3rd mild contractions all day long, then waters broke about 10pm, baby arrived 5am. Longest labour but mildest contractions of all - possibly because only part of my waters went rather than the repeated gushing that I had with no.2? Never felt I was making any progress until DS shot out!
