Habit of falling asleep during hypno birthing - will it work?

Hi everyone,
I did hypno birthing with DD2 and felt it helped enormously. So I thought I'd do the same for DD3 (due end June). But, every time I listen to the CD, I fall asleep and only wake up on '5' of the countdown. 5 is the last number she says which should be 'wide awake' etc. So I don't wake for the 1 or the 2 or even the 3 which should be the stretching.....I'm a bit worried that I'm really not getting anything out of this at all!

Has anyone been through the same? Any advice to offer?

Eh, I always dozed off while listening to the tracks before birth. It was a lovely way to start a nap :)

I'm not sure I consciously used the stuff during birth but I did have a positive and straightforward natural birth and I did feel it helped.

Thanks Whimsy for your post that does make me feel a bit better. As long as it does help and isn't leading me into a false sense of security (though maybe that is what hypnotherapy kind of is anyway?!) It is a lovely way to start a nap though that's for sure :)

I have got TENS machine too so not relying on the hyno birthing alone but you know, have had one traumatic birth so really am hoping for something that does 'help'.

No, don't worry it will still work! Your brain is taking it all in.

It will still work...just get the breathing sorted. I imagined the inflating and floating off balloons and didn't need any pain relief.

Yep, I think it still works. I never got past the bit where I was lying on my own perfect beach without falling asleep!

I went to a couple of classes and fell asleep in those, too!

My hypnobirthing teacher said that falling asleep was good as it means you are really relaxed. I used to fall asleep in the first few seconds of the cd too and it worked for me when DS was born

Wouldn't it be good if it real life we could fall asleep at the perfect beach part and then wake up and have had the baby!
