Homebirth packs

I am 36+6, and am planning a homebirth. Shoud my mw have supplied me with a homebirth pack by now? My next appt is a week Thursday when I'll be 38+2.

We don't get a homebirth pack here. I was give a list of things I needed to supply at 30wks and the midwife brings everything else with her on D-Day.

Have you been told you definitely get one?

I'm having a homebirth too and I've been told to expect the pack to come at 37 weeks. Might be worth just ringing your midwife to check the delivery date - after all, you want to make sure you're in.

In our area we get the home birth pack, I am assuming you mean G&A plastic sheet that kind of thing, at 37 weeks or in my case 36 cause I go anywhere between 37&38 weeks.
If you have been told you are getting one it might be worht giving them a ring.

No pack here.

Was told to get a few cheap towels and a couple of shower curtains.

I asked the mw at our prebirth appt what I needed to supply, and she just said, old sheets, shower curtain (or similar) and plenty of tea and biscuits! They'll bring everything else. Just I've heard this "pack" mentioned by different people and wanted to know if I should have one.

I'm getting entonox & oxygen delivered at 38 weeks but no pack as such as far as I know. Have been asked to supply an anglepoise lamp, lots of towels and have bought plastic shower curtains from Ikea.

I didn't get a pack - I was just told to have a couple of shower curtains. I didn't use them, though. I put a spare king size duvet on the floor,and gave birth on that, although we hadn't planned this.It just seemed right at the time.The duvet was a real mess, and I just wanted to take it to the tip, but DH took it too the laundrette - and it came up lovely and clean.(I was too embarassed to collect it though!)My midwife didn't need the anglepoise lamp.You might want to get in some Pampers disposibe changing mats to sit on straight afterwards, although the midwife did leave me a few.I was also told to have a bucket to be sick into, and yes I did use it.

if they supply a pack they normally do it after checking and oking your iron levels after the 36/37/38 wk check - depending when they allow homebirths whether after 37 or 38 wks

Although here as they do so many homebirths they bring everything and just ask you to get some floor/mattress protectors

The anglepoise lamop is to ensure she can see to stitch you, if necessary. No pack here, either, but the m/ws come and see you at home to check where you plan to give birth and to go thru a detailed checklist of the arrangements and what you need to provide (essentially, you provide all comfort stuff, they provide all medical stuff).

Thanks for all your replies. We had the prebirth appt at home, and the mw was more than happy with our plan to labour/deliver in our lounge. Think I might give her a call just to double check that I haven't missed anything.

Never had a homebirth so don't know much about the packs. I did find this from Mary Cronk though if it helps.

runnyhabbit - we are due at the same time The midwife dropped off the homebirthing kit yesterday as now that I am 37 weeks, the roster has began with the midwives so that they are now on call to come to me for delivery. Our local maternity policy is that from 37 weeks the baby is considered full term. They also like to have everything at the house prepared so who ever turns up doesn't have to worry about what to bring. So we have a large bag and 2 cyclinders of gas in the living room!

All they have suggested for me is the usual - shower curtains / plenty of towels / bright lamp / rubbish bin / bowl for placenta. I also have some of those pamper mats things as I figure they will be easier to change that a bed or towels on the floor - or where ever I end up!

i had a homebirth in december it was the best labour yet wish i did it with my other two as there's nothing better than the comfort of your own home only down side was i never got to rest as i had the other two kidz to look after

my mw brought around the pack at about 37 weeks but she had told me beforehand what sort of stuff i needed to get - plastic, sheets, towels etc.. the pack had a few things missing though - like a suturing kit for sewing me up which had to summoned in haste on the day! So might be worth getting your mw to check the pack..
Also G&A came with the mw when i was in labour. It was a great experience though
