Worried/apprehensive

Hi everyone

This is my 5th pregnancy all my labours have gotten progressively shorter the last was 3 hours and 20 minutes from first sign of labour to delivery - I went from 3cm to 10cm in an hour and pushed while the midwife was in the room without her even knowing it was happening

The hospital I am booked in at is 45 mins - 1 hour away dependant on traffic. I am worried about the logistics of getting that first sign of labour and sorting someone to come and childminder the others (childcare is about a 20 min drive away if they're at home)

I am terrified of giving birth in the car I don't particularly want a home birth and I don't think it would be safe for me either due to the potential bleeding etc from it being the 5th.

Does anyone know if they will consider induction around due date? I've always gone a minimum of 5 days overdue.

Why don't you plan for a home birth just in case everything happens too quickly for you to get to hospital? Then you can still go to hospital if you have time. And if you're at home with the midwife, she will always transfer you to hospital if necessary - the advantage being that she will be with you on the way!

Did you have any complications in any of your previous pregnancies and do you have any risk factors now?

No other risk factors although I've been told a 5th pregnancy is high risk itself due to multiple placental sites and potential bleeding - I'm also 35. After my third delivery I had very heavy blood loss and some intervention to stop it. 4th labour was fine. I really don't want a home birth - I'm very apprehensive about the bleeding again and would feel much safer in a hospital environment. Just wondered if I ask for induction around due date whether they would consider?

I don't know that I'm afraid, I guess you need to discuss it with the midwife, but I would hope they should accommodate your wishes.

Personally I would always avoid induction given the higher risk of interventions, and I've also heard it can be very painful if you're on the syntocin drip (as opposed to just having the pessary) but each to their own!

I've had three successful inductions so fully aware of the difference and feel it would be better for me. The first three were induced so I thought the 4th natural labour would be longer but it was indeed shorter.

Ah if you've already had three inductions that makes complete sense, less scary if you've done it before
