C-Section at Telford Hospital

I am due to have a C-Section at the Princess Royal Hospital in July with my twins.

This is a first pregnancy for me, and to say I am scared of a C-Section is a understatement! I've made the decision to have a C-Section for a number of reasons but it doesn't help with my nerves. Can anyone tell me about to expect throughout the whole procedure and what the after care was like Telford hospital? Will I automatically get a private room afterwards after having a C-Section/Twins? ANny comments/Advice/Tips greatly appreciated and please don't hold back on any gory details as I want to know what to expect. Thank you

Hi OP, i am also booked for Telford and there's a possibility i will be having a c-sec, so i am following your thread with interest! Hope you get some replies soon. Congratulations on the twins! The thought scares me! Lol. Did you have ivf? Or are there twins in your family?

I had a section at Telford in 2016 and will be having another later on this year. You won't automatically get a private room due to a section (I was on a ward) but more likely to due to having twins.

To be totally honest my post-natal experience wasn't great, but I just happened to deliver at a very busy time, and was in labour for days beforehand, and am allergic to certain pain relief! So my view is probably clouded somewhat.

You do have the possibility of being transferred to a MLU 24 hours after surgery to continue your recovery (I was transferred to Shrewsbury) - the MLUs tend to be quieter and I then had my own room.

The actual procedure though was pretty straightforward, and relatively relaxed (considering mine was an emergency). The actual theatre staff and recovery staff were lovely and helped but my mind at rest (and calm my dh down!).

If you have any more specific questions on either Telford/Shrewsbury or sections just let me know (I've had three sections although not all in Telford).

I am now booked for a c-sec on 14/06 at PRH. Have my pre-op tomorrow. Feel a little nervous at the thought of the op. Do they do a spinal block in the same manner as an Epidural? What could you feel? Thanks

Summer how exciting, baby is nearly here!

The spinal block is ok I promise. They will get you to sit sideways on the operating bed thing, I think there was a step to put your feet on, and then you bend forwards over a pillow (a midwife may or may not hold your hands ) Then you can feel them feeling your spine, and they'll put a local anaesthetic in (so just feels like a normal injection, or 'sharp scratch' as they always like to say!). You will them feel a bit more prodding (they are just locating the best place to do the block) and I can honestly say I didn't feel the main injection, just a lot of faffing.

They'll then get you to lie down and they'll start attaching you to the monitors etc (so some sticky things on your chest, oxygen thing on your finger), and they'll put up the curtain and start putting the sheets etc over you. At some stage they'll spray you with some cold air spray to check how the anaesthetic is taking - do not worry, they double and treble check before they start anything. You will have pins and needles in your bum and then feel nothing - it is a very odd sensation.

At some stage they will put a catheter in (last time I didn't even notice let alone feel anything!). And then they'll start. I was slightly away with the fairies during my last section due to various drugs prior to the section (and being nil by mouth for 12 hours) so it seemed only seconds before baby was out.

Hi Willy, thanks very much for your reply, it was really helpful. I am starting to feel nervous now! Nil by mouth as of Midnight tomorrow, hoping i get taken to theatre in the morning lot or i will be climbing the walls with hungar/thirst! Lol
