Water birth if...

Hi all, I was just wondering whether anyone has experience of water births if they have herpes. I was under the impression that if I didn't suffer any outbreaks throughout the pregnancy there wouldn't be a problem but my midwife said she was unsure. I was really hoping for a water birth. TIA

Didn't cause any issues with me, they examined me when I got onto the midwife unit to check for signs of a flare up, I knew I didn't have one anyway, and once confirmed the midwife walked off to run the pool for me. I was told by my consultant that if I had a flare up I'd have to have an emergency c section. Hope that helps.

Some people get a low dose of the medicine prescribed in the last month to prevent an outbreak, from what I've read.

Thanks Ann I was surprised the midwife didn't know, considering GH is so common

Heya.
I've had nothing but outbreaks since becoming pregnant.
I was under consultant led care but I'm going to be put on acyclovir from 34 weeks so once I'm on those I'll be considered 'low risk' and have been told I can have a water birth.
Nobody mentioned anything to me about if I had an outbreak around the time of birth buy I'm assuming I'd be taken for a C section if that were to happen.
