Had a sweep done about 2 hours ago doc said I was 3cm dilated and very favourable not sure what that means but anyway the last hour I've had some bad cramping every 2-3 mins very uncomfortable but as I'm due to be induced tomorrow I don't want to go to the hospital if it's not actually labor

Could possibly be early labour. Wait it out - you will know when it is the real thing. When pains are coming every 3 minutes and are lasting 60 seconds or less it's labour and you can go to hospital! Contractions do feel different to cramps though, they sort of peak then tail off so you will know when they are proper contractions. Really it's best to stay home as long as possible as it won't happen that quickly and better that than being turned away, especially if you are going to be induced tomorrow! Start timing and keep a record :) good luck!

Ps favourable means your cervix is soft and ready to dilate :)

Not unusual to get cramps after a sweep. They may stop. Have a bath and some paracetamol and see how it goes. If they get stronger it's a good sign.

Oh I love a labour thread. Good luck op, it does sound like early labour, but as pp said, could be cramping from the sweep.

SuperSix77 · 28/04/2017 16:16

I'd say it's quite likely! Same thing happened to me after my last sweep. Cramping is a sign of early labour. I went for a walk & the unmistakable contractions started not long after! Good luck. 🙄

I agree with Super, it's likely. Was the same for me 4 wks ago. Sweep at 9 1-2 favourable, mild cramping kicking in about 11 steadily ramping up & I had him at 6pm. My MLU told me I'd know for sure when I wasn't able to speak during the contractions but tbh if I'd waited that long he'd have been born in the hospital car park! If your unsure I'd recommend using an app to track the pains then you can see if there's a pattern, frequency & duration etc (I used a free one that did the job).
