Help! What is this pain??

I am 40+2 with ds2 and for the last 2 days, every time I stay on my feet for more than 5 minutes I start to get contraction like pains in my back and under my bump which are constant and build up more and more the longer I stay upright with no break. Is this just BH's? Or contractions? If I keep on my feet will they eventually become contractions? Quite desperate for labour to begin!!

Sounds a bit like BHs to me - remember getting these in late pg. Might be worth talking to your MW if you're unsure. Hope things move along soon for you

Sounds like my contractions.

If they are regular, time them, then ring hospital or m/w

Good luck

i thought bhs go away if you move around and contractions get stronger!

Snap with dd2 - she was42+1 at birth. staying on my feet just made then worse but they never became real contractions. If you think they could be my midwife said to have a long hot bath. If bh only they will stop if real they will keep increasing. Found that I just spend last 10 days sitting or laying down as totally fed up being in pain when labour was still to come. My midwife later classed this period as slow labour as I was contracting but not well enough and dd2 was moving down o get ready. all the best

Thanks everyone - it sounds a bit like what cgom had. But I hope I don't go to 42+1!!!
It's hard to know what to do at this stage as I just want to get going. And yes, tried sex etc...I can't time them because they don't have a start and stop, just constant pain. Any other ideas out there?

Don't know but I'm having the same sort of thing, it is annoying!
It's not like the BH i usually have because it's painful and more pulling down below, and some backache. Mine tend to come on strong if I lie down but they are coming and going willy nilly. I just want to get on with it too.

My edd is tomorrow. I'm hoping they will build into proper labour but I slept atrociously with these things! If it goes on for too long I'll not be fit to labour!

So I'm no help but I can sympathise anyway.

Always good to have sympathy! Very glad I'm not the only one battling it out. What are your plans Rosy to get through the day?

Eating loads and hoping for a nap or two I don't want to go into full labour until I've got the energy for it! And I may eventually feel up to jumping my dh

DaisyMOO · 10/03/2007 09:09

I would guess it's pre-labour contractions and will get going 'properly' eventually. Don't tire yourself out walking around too much though, get as much rest as possible - if it is labour it will get going whatever you do.
