anyone had a baby there recently? please could you share your honest opinions of the ward and midwives?

Wow. Major typos in that! It is meant to say, Good Hope Hospital. Argh!

I had DC1 there in November. I was supposed to go to Heartlands MLU but I had to be induced (waters went) and Heartlands was full.

The labour ward is much nicer than Heartlands, better facilities. The midwives were absolutely lovely, but stretched as they are everywhere. There's an anaesthesiologist on call which is reassuring.

The post natal is not so great, just because they're so stretched. But better vs Heartlands, you can use your phone charger, you can have your baby sleep on you and the partners visiting hours are til 10pm instead of 7pm. I was there 6 days so I got a pretty good idea of it, some nights it was really quiet, some it was crazy, they just can't plan so you have to take it as it comes.

Thanks Minty, that's helpful. Trytowin let's hope some others can give us some stories! I didn't rate the 20 week scan at all. The sonographer barely said a word, didn't explain what anything was (literally) and then got visibly irritated that the baby wasn't in a good position, proper huffing and puffing! Was really awkward.

Had ds1 at Good hope last year.
I was full of praise of them before I went in. Then witnessed a Polish girl give birth on triage ward floor in her trousers due to lack of midwives. Absolutely appaling.
My own birth ended up in emergency section as they ignored me telling them I felt the baby had turned. Well I was right and baby was back to back and got very distressed.
Then ended up in hospital for 5 days following csec and they forgot to give me meds during shift change resulting in having to have morphine injected.
Don't think I'd go back to be honest which is a real shame as it's very convenient.
The staff were lovely just so bloody overstretched but this is guess is a national issue.
