Hellooo, just had a sweep so sat around waiting for things to get moving. Had two with previous pregnancies and they worked!! I have never had an epidural and would really like one this time, I'm just wondering when you would normally go in to hospital? Last time(s) I was told after contractions became too much or every 3-5mins, the usual, then go in. I understand though that having an epi will depend on wether or not an anesthetist is available and stuff!!

The anaesthetist won't put one in until you're in active labour - so >3cm dilated and regular contractions 3 in 10 minutes. No need to go in earlier because you want an epidural, but tell them as soon as you're in so they can call the anaesthetist and allow some time for them to get there/get set up.

It varies from hospital to hospital. At my hospital, it's 4cms but it can range from 2-4cm.
