Countess of Chester or Wrexham Maelor?

Im not sure which to go to.. As other half wants Wrexham (welsh) and i want Chester as i have more faith in them and me myself being born there. My friends have had bad experiences with the maelor but i don't want to upset my other half. Although Chester is my choice. My midwife said today that id have a tough job trying to get permission to go to chester as i live right in the middle of the two and under the welsh healthboard.
Just a rant really.. Anyone have good/bad experiences with either?

I've had two at Chester..one emergency section and one planned and both times were fantastic.

the first time both DD and I were in danger and we were so well cared for. I had a private room after the section and the nurses were amazing.

Emergency C Section at Chester. Excellent care. Let's hope they don't close it down!

Piece they're not thinking of doing that are they!? I live in Australia now...so haven't heard.

Both my girls at Chester and both times they were bloody amazing.
DD2's entry to the world went from birthing suite calm to touch and go and very traumatic. The staff were beyond great and the aftercare was also top notch. Really really recommend them x

I would go to the countess every single time. The unit is at risk of being shut down which is a shame because it isn't badly run at all.

In 2011 DHs employer wanted us to relocate to Manchester and I was 5 months along. The midwife at Liverpools womans told me to get myself into the countess as she agreed that, based on my medical history, I was highly likely to need a CS and she said they have a good group of consultants.

user They are looking at closing it down because they argue that anyone on the Wirral side of Chester can go to Arrowe Park, on the Welsh side you can go to Maelor and on the Warrington side you can go to Warrington.

Quite frankly, based on the horror stories I have heard from friends, it's Arrowe Park that should be shut down.

I had my daughter at the Maelor. The postnatal support wasn't great in terms of breastfeeding, but I was induced and the support and care in the time on the antenatal ward and the labour ward was fantastic. I can't fault it.

Had my DD at Chester, I live pretty much equal distance between the Countess and the Maelor (but on the Wales side), and I had no problems choosing which hospital I wanted to go to. In fact I was asked if I had a preference. I think the only issue comes with if you need an ambulance, as if you're in Wales the Paramedics will only take you to a Welsh hospital (be that the Maelor or Glan Clwyd).

Personally I couldn't fault the Countess of Chester, they were bloody amazing and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. I've had friends who've had babies in the Maelor and all three have said the same thing. During labour they are great, but their aftercare (basically as soon as you've had the baby), is awful.

BCUHB (Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board), who are in control of Wrexham Maelor have been placed in special measures, which is obviously cause for concern.

OH had her son at Maelor. Doctors were great but aftercare lacking. She had our DD elsewhere and said aftercare was much better but docs were much, much better at Wrexham. This was a while ago, so likely changes.

Couldnt agree more. Dreadful place, non-existent 'care' - thank goodness for One to One Midwives on the Wirral. I would never return to Arrowe.

I had both my LOs at Arrowe and couldn't fault them at all. And worked at Countess so heard really good things about there. Everyone's experiences are different I guess x

Mrskeats · 14/12/2016 12:33

I had two at the Countess and care was fab both times
How the hell can they consider shutting it?
If you had an emergency is 20 mins to Wrexham
Have been in touch with my MP about this
