Postnatal (day 7) very bad stomach pains

DD is gave birth to DGS 7 days ago, today she has stomach pains and feels a bit sick/dizzy. Just gone to bed and said her upper abdomen is very sore. I said plan to phone GP first thing in morning, but if really ill in night wake me up.
Should I be getting her to phone triage or nhs24 now?

I'd say so, nothing to loose by phoning 111 and it's just not worth taking the risk. I've just been reading a lady's very scary thread about sepsis that's been moved over to classics, probably very rare but it just shows it's always worth checking with a professional. Hope she feels better soon

She just told me the bleeding is pretty bad again and she thinks the maternity pads smell bad...getting her to phone now

It's sounds like she's got an infection. She needs to be seen ASAP. Can you take her to a&e?

Has she got a number for the postnatal ward she was on? I was given a midwife contact number to call for advice after delivery. Often they readmit to postnatal when you have an infection after birth. She needs to phone them or 111.

You're in the right place and you've done the right thing

I know IABU but it hacks me off when they tell you to come in and then just leave you sitting in a room waiting... So hard when you just exhausted

But it's so hard to assess over the phone how ill someone is. If her obs hadn't been fine she would have been seen right away. Her symptoms could have indicated a serious infection which is unlikely if her obs are ok.

She's still in - on antibiotics, (wee bit infected). Blood pressure low and bleeding a lot so had an ultra sound, her chest hurts so now getting her lungs scanned. She is not great at all.

I'm glad she went in when she did. If her obs were ok when she went in at least it sounds like it's been caught early. She will be in good hands. Hope she's home soon.

She's home!!! Lung scan, ultra sound and blood tests later, they confirmed infection but nothing more sinister. She has a proper cocktail of pills and to continue with the blood thinner injections and lots more iron but she actually has more colour in her cheeks now! Baby DGS been an angel for her throughout #relief all ok
