Relieving braxton hicks...

looks like my last couple of weeks this time around (39+2) are going to be much like it was with DS. Many a sleepless night of false labour/uncomfy BHs every 5 mins!

Almost 4am and I'm getting p*ssed off now as I know it's not going anywhere and I want some sleep. Anything that will help get rid of them? I even stopped taking the raspberry leaf a few days ago incase it was that causing it. Apparently not.

The only thing that ever eased false labour for me was getting up and walking around. You have my sympathy - with ds1 I had false labour contractions every night between 1 and 1.30am for nearly 3 weeks. OTOH, the false labours were shorter wiuth each subsequebt baby. Good luck!

Hi Suzi

Its pants, think the only cure is labour its self though!

Not long now

38+6

suzi2 · 11/02/2007 08:39

Well I'm still having them... between 3 and 6 mins apart. And occasionally missing one. I had thought at 6am that "this was it" and that I was in agony, but it's amazing how much daylight changes things. Now I have DH to chat to they're not unbearable whatsoever.

Walking around does help - cheers for the tip!

Oh Hi Divvy - only just noticed it was you! How are you? Haven't seen you around in a long while.

try having a bath.....

Divvy · 11/02/2007 13:48

Is it normal to feel like you want to be on your own during labour, I am getting contractions now every 10 mins, and I am feeling agitated when they happen..feel a bit panicy...is that normal do you think?

they started across my back, but I can feel them in my tummy now.

Suzi...how are your lumps?

Divvy · 11/02/2007 13:49

Just to add..I really feel odd...not myself at all.

lulumama · 11/02/2007 13:50

divvy..think you might be in early labour

and yes, wanting to be on your own is fine ,but make sure that someone is within shouting distance or can pop their head round the door to make sure you are ok.....

are oyu having home or hospital birth?

Divvy · 11/02/2007 13:58

Hospital

lulumama · 11/02/2007 14:08

ok, if your contractions get to around 5 minutes, or even 3 minutes apart ,time to get in the car xx

suzi2 · 11/02/2007 14:27

Still contracting every 4-6 mins here Some really sore, others no more than a BH. Spoke to mw who has basically said that there's not much that can be done apart from keeping active. Bath made no difference, neither did rest, neither has a long walk and lunch. And here was me thinking that 2nd babies were more straightforward!

Divvy - hope things are kicking off. Lumps are fine - didn't really get them past 18 wks or so. Got awful eczema instead lol. How are yours?

5 mins apart here now too.

No lumps here since about 20 weeks either! but some nice brown scarring though!

Divvy · 11/02/2007 15:02

...and then it just stops..just like that!

I feel better now too...strange!

Oh well 6 hours of practise under my belt...lol

How are yours now Suzi?

lulumama · 11/02/2007 15:38

oh well !! it is all helping ! have a cu pof tea and a sit down !

suzi2 · 11/02/2007 16:08

I got some sleep . Not sure if there were minor ones ongoing while I was resting but I woke to a couple of major ones. Things still ticking over I guess. Going to take it easy just now - activity doesn't seem to speed it up anyway so I'm as well lounging while I can.

lulumama - what's the chances of a daylight birth? Do most babies come at night or is that just the ones in my family?

OP posts:
lulumama · 11/02/2007 16:11

more babies seem to come at night , something to do with some primitive thing about privacy, or being asleep and relaxed lets labour start...although i woke up in labour, DD did not arrive until the early hours of the next morning!

some babies do come in the day, quite a lot i should think! but seems to be an increased tendency for babies to come in the night or for labour to start at night!

they come when they are ready and not a second before ! x

Divvy · 12/02/2007 04:07

They are back again, and feel shaky again...please dont let me go on like this for days.....

Cant make out contractions on there own really..just feel really achey...and sicky

suzi2 · 12/02/2007 05:44

Oooh - you're not in transition are you Divvy??? That was what I was like a few hours ago... 7lb 7oz girl born at 3:25am. Definately the best way to relieve BHs lol
