Lochia still red 10 days on

Gave birth last Tuesday, had very heavy bleeding after the birth and since then has got less but my Lochia is still red. Every thing I have read says that the red Lochia should have finished after 4 days and gone to brown. I have had no signs of it turning brown.
I've asked my midwife about this and she said I shouldn't be concerned and can last up to 6 weeks but I am still worried that something is wrong!
I feel okay in myself and the flow isn't heavy, it tends to come after a feed. I'm exclusively breastfeeding and midwife said this is normal after a feed.
Just wondering if anyone else experienced red Lochia for this long? I can't help but worry about retained products or infection.

I bled for 7 weeks with dc1 and it was red for at least 10 days. Nearer 2 weeks iirc.

Was there any concern about your placenta? Did they count all the layers and check it? Do you usually have trouble healing?

No problem with delivering placenta. I don't know about the layers. I had bleeds through my pregnancy which they said was from edge of placenta and I ended up being induced for this. When I delivered the placenta they could see nothing wrong with it and MW said my pregnancy bleeding is unrelated to my red lochia now

I bled for 7.5 weeks with my first and it was bright red for at least 2.5 weeks. Maybe 3. Then it turned browner.

With both of mine it was bright red for a couple of weeks. How are you feeling?

Birgitz · 30/10/2016 19:45

I bled for 10 weeks and I'm pretty sure it was bright red for at least 6 - the doctor said it was fine...

Thanks for all the replies, made me feel a lot better. Its actually turned to brown in the past day. Good to know it can vary!
